I have to share this as I know there are some diehard cyclist fans on this website Just got back from the bay area after watching the first 2 stages of the Amgen Tour of California. We got back to our hotel last night after watching the cyclist end at downtown Santa Rosa. We were walking down the hall to our room, and heard someone yell "Eki" and lo and behold, there were the guys from Team Discovery in the halls with their doors open. Walked by an open door and there was GEORGE HINCAPIE lying on his bed tapping away on his laptop. My friend and I were so discombobulated we stood there a few seconds then said, George! We are huge fans!" We talked a bit more, not much but I can't remember what else we said. It was too cool for 2 40 something cycle crazy women I would highly recommend attending this event next year if you are near or in California. We're definitely going to make it an annual thing

Oh, and we're convinced that he won today's stage race because he met two fabulous women last night!! (one could only hope)

I met him at the Interbike in 2004. I don't know if he attended in 2005 or plans to attend in 2006, but I have a cool cycling jersey signed by him. It took me a long time before I washed it. Ha!

Did anyone watch last night? Looked like the highway patrol cruiser almost took out one of the leaders.

Yup, a few minutes later they almost did it again from the other side, only this time they were nice enough to leave a couple feet.  That was a MAJOR close call.   Looked like the CHP was trying to squeeze by wherever they could, not sure they know what to do in a race like that

I was watching it in bed fighting to stay awake.  Then that CHP went by and I got a shock through my body...after that, I had no problems staying up.  Scared the hell out of me.
