FWIW, my favorite salty snack these last few weeks has been that Japanese snack mix stuff - you know, crunchy little soy-flavored rice thingies? I carry it cycling now b/c it's lightweight, easy for me to digest, and gives me the salt I need (I've had wacky salt problems on long rides.)

But if you're a steak & eggs type, that may not be your cup of sake. Have fun!

Glucose tabs....good for a quick blood sugar boost, you can carry 'em with you, and they're 4 grams of fast acting carbs per tab. Theyre cheap too...a bottle of about 30 is about 4 or 5 dollars? You may have to ask @ the pharmacy counter..some keep em behind the counter, others just keep them with the diabetes supplies. Don't worry, they're not prescription strength.

Thanks for all the help.... below is my 35mile run results

Miles: 35

Pace: 11m/m

Food:
2 Pizza’s (one supreme, one mexican style)
3 PBJ’s
Bunch of GU’s
1 Gallon of water
Orange Gatorade

Equipment:
Lawn Chair
2 Jackets
Heavy winter gloves
Extra mp3 player
Cell phone

Start Time: Started out late cause it was raining at 3am ended up starting at 7amish

Course: 3.5 mile loop in a secluded part of town, with plenty of hills and a few flat spots.

Wind: 10-15mph out of the south

Sky: Cloudy at first then the sun came out and I burned

Temperature: 60’s

Clothes: Tights and long sleeve shirt… (Overdressed!!! should of worn shorts)

Lessons Learned:
Should of broken in my shoes better (the skin on the end of my toes have left the building)
Sunscreen (folks at work think it was my first time in a tanning bed)
Start with my run walk plan (I ran the first 28 miles then was forced to run/walk)
Change of clothes (clothes for cold and warm weather… I had clothes for warm)

Things I did right:
Brought along my i-pod
Did the loop instead of an out and back style on our trail system. The loop helped break things down into smaller chunks. It was easier for to mentally handle 10 loops than thinking about 35 miles.
Used the trunk of my car as my aid station

Conclusion: I have to admit the first 30 was relatively easy the last 5 was nauseating. In 2 weeks I will be doing 44 hopefully this will be easier cause this time I will not be alone.

So, you started at 7 am, finished around 1:30 pm? Wow. So, how did you handle the pizza? Did you sit down and take a break, then eat a slice? I would think it would be hard to stomach pizza, but then again, I've never run 10 miles, much less 35.  What kind of breaks did you take? I'm just curious. Congratulations!!

Yeah I started 7ish and finished around 1-2ish… What I did was every 3 laps I rewarded myself with a few slices of pizza that I had in the trunk of my car. I never really sat down because I might not have got back up so I just leaned against my car. Stomaching the pizza was a concern of mine but turned out to be the best think to eat. (next time I will splurge and get Tombstone)

The pizza sounds good. Fats and carbs. Did you have meat on it?

meat lovers.... Laughing Speedball (aka Tuck) is going to follow me on his bike for 44 miles in two weeks (http://www.brewtobrew.com/) I've  been thinking how he can pack along a Red Baron super supreme w/o severely damaging it.

Cook it (obviously), let it cool and then put slices into ziplock bags. Put up to 2 pieces in each bag.

Speedball you better take notes from Comet cause I expect some Wolfgang Puck quality pizza while running (fyi: http://www.wolfgangpuck.com) and I think you need to put my 45lb hound in that basket that is on the front of your bike.

I have a bike stroller for Maddie - I can put the hound and an EZ Bake Pizza oven in there.  Man I am a great friend.

Or you could just drive by him slowly while eating his pizza and laughing as you drink a big coke. But thats just me, if you are crazy enough to run 44 miles then I got a 10k that ends with a dive into a woodchipper for you!
