Pre-race routine:

Since this was my first race ever, I walked around, stretched, and made sure I was hydrated. Kept it to a small breakfast, wheat toast and peanut butter.
Event warmup:

Walked steadily and stretched some warm muscles.
Run
  • 38m 12s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 38s  min/km
Comments:

I felt I did well for the limited training I did. Calves were sore half way through, and breathing needs some work. But no side stitches!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Build up my stamina and run longer during training. Also keep a longer training time instead of a couple of weeks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a while, just kept moving. Walked to water and fruit stations over the bridge, then walked around the convention center, and another 1.5 miles to parking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training. Although that time wasn't spent on the couch like in the past.

Event comments:

Everything went smoothly for me today. I can use this experience to measure future races. Everyone was friendly and very helpful.

Thanks, and next time I will. I still had some family in town (just left an hour ago) that I haven't seen in years. I'm out to start my serious training tonight.

I completely forgot to mention, around the 2 mile mark, my head got really hot and started to throb. Another runner told me to dump water in my hat at the next station. This is one of the key items that helped me finish.

I am signing up for my next 5k this week, new goal is no walking. Then on to the reason I'm really here.....time to TRI.

Thanks Again to Everyone!!!
See you soon,
Adam

and when are those pictures going to be available online?

Nice job on your first race! I dump water on my head at almost every water station - it feels great.

Way to go Adam.  Darn, there were more BT-ers there than I had a chance to meet.  Hope to run a race with you one of these days, maybe we'll do this again next year!
