Pre-race routine:

pasta and red sauce night before, spent the night at Sue's, (thanks to the kindness of Charlie who agreed to share her with us.) woke up, ate kashi and had coffee, drove to race
Event warmup:

ha ha ha. the first 5k was a warm up, the 2nd was the race, and teh final 5k was cool down.
Run
  • 1h 36m 47s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

super fun, I focused on having fun, and until about mile 7 I was completely w/out pain. Then the ITB started throbbing. bummer. lungs were great the whole time, max HR was still in Z2
What would you do differently?:

I dunno. I wonder if I had gone even slower or perhaps took my walks more frequently I could have staved off ITB?
Post race
Warm down:

stumble around trying to find janice sue et al

What limited your ability to perform faster:

damn knee. I also had to stop and gag and cough and sputter once bc the gatorade was so barfy and strong, i thought I might die. A fork would have made it easier to drink, it was so nasty, and when I went to spit it out, I breathed it in and started choking. A cop actually asked if I was OK, and I was so afraid he'd start yanking me off the course, but I couldnt explain that the gatorade was possessed by a demon. Major drama.

Event comments:

really well orgnaized and marked, tons of h2o stations, lots of friendly volunteers, a super time with BT friends

Nice race Hollis, despite the chunky Gatorade issues!

It was great to meet you and see your "best side" at the beach.  It wouldn't have been a great weekend without you there, glad you made it!

I'm so happy for you! You did great and I'm so glad you found us after the race so you didn't have to wander around lost by yourself.

Take care of that leg!
Oh, and I have a new bathing suit avatar of you that I'll send.

Nice job! I can't believe we were so close and still didn't get to meet each other. Maybe you can come visit your parents this winter for the Palm Beach Marathon weekend and we can meet up there. Have a great trip home!

Nice race!  It was great to finally meet up with my midwest neighbor..... in Florida.

Wish you could have stayed for the rest of the weekend.  It was a blast!

Hope you adjust to the  cold midwest better than I did.  Hehehe.
