Wherever the trail takes me, WA.
Subject: AZ VISITOR!!!!
I will be heading down there April 1st. Visiting the folks for 10 days. My wife will be following me about 6 days later. We are staying in an area called GOODYEAR (?). Any good places to run around there? I am not going to ship my bike (because w/ IM AZ it will be hectic with the bike boxes). So I will just be golfing, and heading out for long slow runs....

ANY ADVICE!

Hello AZ Visitor. Goodyear is way out West. I live in the East Valley (near the AZ Ironman course) and can really only tell you that the Goodyear area is really flat.

I would suggest using the USATF mapping to create a route. http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/

It is around 35-40 miles or so. I always have thought of Goodyear as being far away, especially with the Phoenix traffic (although it shouldn't be bad at all on a Sunday morning.)

I just live a couple of miles from Tempe town lake.

I would suggest trying to stay in the South part of Scottsdale, West part of Mesa, or in Tempe if you are doing the AZ Ironman. Tempe and Scottsdale have lots of good biking and running areas too.

I know several people who have gone otu to goodyear to retire... Yeah you're a long trek down hwy 10 to the IM course...

If you want to go swimming - you could probably get into this YMCA - they have a 50 m x 25 yd pool that's great to swim in. http://www.swvalleyymca.org/

There tends to be little green belts in neighborhoods in Goodyear. Typically the canal system is the best place to run, but I don't think any of the canals go out as far as goodyear? http://www.srpnet.com/water/canals/distances.aspx...The Arizona Canal is the best place to run. Good year is to the west of this map. The IM area is around the X-Cut canals in the center of the map.

With good traffic you could probably make it to mid-Arizona Canal in 30 min, or slightly more. Take 10 E to 51 North, get off Bethany Home, turn right through private neighborhood, and follow street around to park & canal. Run east along canal.
