I am looking forward to my first visit to San Diego (and California) to run this one. Who else is going to be running it?

Also, does anyone familiar with the city have any recommendations on what to see in SD while I'm in town?

Good luck you guys. So many marathons in California, what made you pick this one?

us50090 - 2006-03-12 10:42 AM Good luck you guys. So many marathons in California, what made you pick this one?

Thank you!

I chose it for several reasons:

  • I've heard quite a bit about it from other runners since I got into running about four years ago
  • it IS in California
  • it is five weeks after the marathon I am running in April
  • it fits nicely between my semester breaks

How would you compare RnR to other CA marathons?

Hey guys,

I did this race in 2000.  I think it was the 2nd year out.  I plan on doing it this year, only  due to the fact I have a few peeps at work who want me to train with them for it, thankfully we will be running our own race. Sealed

What to do in SD?  There is alot to do in SD. You can visit the famous zoo, sea world, go to the gas lamp district for dinner/dancing, go take in the museums at Balboa Park.  Also, you can hang at the beach and do some decent shopping.

I hope the weather is decent.  Get in some decent miles on your legs this race can be pretty hard on the body.

Simple: I didn't. I talked my buddy Brad into doing Houston as his first and he blew a gasket and missed his goal time by a good bit. So this is the next marathon he chose and I'm gonna pace him to make sure he finishes sub-4:00.

Nice! Maybe we can talk about this pacing to a sub -4:00 thing I'm hoping for a 4:30, sub 4 would be amazing!

Thank you for the tips! I cannot wait to see the Pacific Ocean from a California beach!!

I don't know how to compare them, never done the RnR. I just did Napa Valley. It comes down to schedule most of the time just as you said. I look for stunning vistas most of all. One of the absolute best in this regard is the Big Sur Marathon (in Northern California). Check out the views. http://www.bsim.org/frame.html

Pray for us "flatlanders" from the state of florida coming out to San Diego to enjoy the Rock n Roll Marathon. I am TERRIFIED!! Five years of triathlons and I have never done a full marathon. This will be my first. All I want to do is make the cut off. I have no vision of glory here!!

I am running with Team in Training in memory of my 8 year old godson who died last year from leukemia!! Bringing over 50 runners/walkers to San Diego for fun in the sun!!

Anybody up for a party???

Watching the sun set over the pacific ocean is pretty tough to beat, in my humble opinion.
