I'm an operatinal risk manager for a financial futures and options exchange - work a standard 9-5 with a 3 hour round trip commute. At least technological advances means that's no longer dead time.

i'm an IT Director for an ad firm.  we have showers at the office, so it's easy to squeeze in a run at lunch regardless of the hours.  plus i'm only 6 miles from home with easy access to some great bike routes when i'm motivated enough :-)

I'm a Correctional Officer (Prision Guard) in the state of Texas. I work at an all male facility, and as a female, well, ya know the risk. But I'm safe and have great rank and officers that work with me. I work 12 hour days, 5pm to 5am, so I train after work. I usually hit the gym and work out the anger and stress.
However, I do have a Law Enforcement Degree and want to get into that. This prision thing is just a stepping stone and some experience for me.
Never forget those who's job it is to keep you and your families safe. And Don't Mess With Texas!!

Great thread... thanks for bumping it back up for us newbies.

I'm an industrial engineer turned banker.  I used to make circuit boards, then built big GREEN tractors (a fun job) but had a passion for financial services (dating back to a college internship of 4 years).  So now I'm currently in a risk rotation at BofA and plan to get back into a product and marketing role in January (much more fun).

My other job is a husband  to Wendy (crazytrain) and daddy to soon to be 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter (see albums - they are my buddies).  Tri training has actually given us another family adventure to do together with our DoodleBug to run/bike with the kids.

I have to work out before work (get to the gym between 6-7) and get into the office around 8:30-9:00.  It helps to beat the hectic rush hour traffic and I can have quality time with the family in the evenings.

Edit - oh.. and I spend way too much time on conference calls which provides ample time to be a BT addict.

Man that was an interesting but LONG read! I am a meeting and event planner. I work for a small independent firm doing contract work mainly for medical societies. We plan large meeting where you Dr. types can come and get your continuing medical education (CME). Means I get to travel a little, probably 3 weeks a year. I work 730-430 and my wife is a triathlete so the training is not hard to make time for. I am also on staff part time with First Methodist Church as the youth worship pastor. Means I get to play guitar with kids and have a good time. Good stuff.

I am the business mail manager for a physician recruiting firm. I saw that there are alot of doctors on here. If you are looking to change positions let me know. Just kidding (kindof)

I used to be a music teacher at a small rural school. It didnt pay well and it was a 70 mile a day commute, so I decided to find a new job. I used to work 60-70 hours a week and have to think about my job constantly. Now I work 40 hours (not a minute more), I dont have to think about it outside of work, and I get paid more. Cant beat it.

I do miss teaching so I plan on starting my Masters Degree sometime in the near future, so that when I go back, I can be more selective in where I teach.

Right now I train at 6AM before my wife and baby have to go to work. I also train during lunch and sometimes at night after the baby goes to sleep. I havent gotten really hard into training yet cause I just started (currently on Couch to 5k and ride my mountain bike a few times a week) But as soon as december roles around, I struggling to find enough time to train, I would imagine. We will have to see.

Well

I'm glad you posted this.

I kept thinking maybe I am the only one who is NOT at the level to win wonderful cash prizes and endorsements. So I work as an engineer (I hate it - very boring, but uhhh paying the bills for now).

Plus I am a single parent, so yeah I was happy to finish two full races this year.

I train alone which sucks, but I can gripe to the wind if I must hear myself talk

I keep wondering if I am doing the right thing - everything inside screams yes, but everything on the outside is a major obstacle to jump over.

Full time student this year, after taking last year off to work in Residence. Last year, finding time to train was tough as I worked a lot of weird hours, but this year, finding time before, after and between classes has been a dream! I highly recommend it.

And might I just add, what a community of professionals we have here! I had no idea! Thanks for starting the post heymickey - sure is interesting!

I'm a business appraiser. I value (mostly) private companies. A number of reasons, including gift & estate taxes, ESOPs, occasional buy-sell stuff. Also get involved in some accounting regulatory work like purchase price allocations and stock option award valuations.

I'm also a husband and father of 2 boys, 8 and 5, the oldest of which is a special needs kid.

It is not as romantic of a profession as it has been portrayed

And we don't get paid as much as engineers...

I'm a bugler in the Army. I travel around the greater Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan areas and play taps for funerals. I train whenever I have the time. One day it may be at lunch one day it may be at night. I get paid well, but funerals drain the life outta ya (no pun intended) and I think I will be changing jobs next year.

I am a Mom!  Retired from being an ICU RN for the time being.  One of the reasons I chose nursing as a profession was to be able to train for triathlons.  I did one my first year as an RN. I just completed my second triathlon nine years later.  It is amazing how your goals can get sidetracked.  While I was training for this last race my husband asked me if I was going to keep doing "These".  I said of course!  I am back baby!!!!!!!  Never felt better.
