Pre-race routine:

smoothie bananna some coffee.
Event warmup:

I was planning on making this part of a 10 mile training run, 2 mile warm up and 2 mile cool down,,,,, I live in the desert because I am not fond of rain or the cold,,,,,, today we had both. the rain stopped right about the start and actually turned out pretty nice, and it was sunny when we finished.
Run
  • 53m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I was happy how I managed the race all in all. Started out slow and let my heart rate dictate pace, at about mile 3 I let the heart rate stay in the low 170s and the last .3 or so I tried to run all out and was in the 180s most of that portion. This was a contest between my sweetie and me. I got a bit of a lead weaving in and out of the people at the start a little better than she did. Just before the 2 mile mark on an uphill here she comes blowing by me, I tried to balance hr and speed to keep up with her and I pulled her back between mile 2 and 3 and took a very small lead. Leading into mile 4 was another hill,,,, which she usually has the advantage on, I decided to gamble a bit and did all I could to pick up the pace and not go over 175 hr hoping I could keep my gap or gain a little and break her will.... :) It worked. We both ran a lot better than what we had thought we would and a good portion of that is due to our loving competativeness with each other. She's the best girl a guy could hope to have.
What would you do differently?:

Schedule a race on a warmer and drier day.
Start a lot closer to the front.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked out to the pier with Pam, had some water and an orange.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I haven't done any speed work as of yet, I hope to get in 2 or 3 good speed workout before the Oly the end of the Month.

Event comments:

They could have had one more water stop and the first water stop, both cups of water I could see dirt floating in them and it tasted terrible,,,,, but hay I needed the liquid.

Course: I thought the course would be pretty flat. It seemed like the first mile and a half or so was flat and the next 4 mile a gradual uphill and the a small dip then up hill again. All in all I liked the course.

Thanks!

We really have a good time "competing" with each other, we were only about a minute apart or less at the end. I know that I ran faster cause of her on my tail. I'm sure she did as well.

 Have a great week!

Wow, great race, you are fortunate to be able to compete with your sweetheart like that!  I hope in the true spirit of gentlemanly sportsmanship, that the winner paid for dinner and the loser got a kiss or two as well.

That's one mighty fine 10K - nice race!  Looks like many of us chose the recovery routine today.  I was a littel sore from my 10 Mile race on Sunday, but not near as bad as I thought.

You managed your race really well - isn't that an awesome feeling?

I am a very lucky guy to have the best training parter/friend/lover,,,, sorry I could go on and on.....

We had an awesome lunch at

It's right on the beach, the food was awesome, the service was great. Our server was Julia. It was one of the best dining experiences I've had.

I did pay for the lunch and carbonated carbo replacement drinks,,,,,,,, as far as the kissing,,,,,, well I'm not one to you know, kiss and tell.

Looks like the next rematch may be a half mary in Utah in July.

Good Luck and stay healthy and injury free in all that you do this year.

 Jim
