Pre-race routine:

Didn't want to get up, didn't want to run, didn't want to be in the cold, windy weather. Argued with myself for a good 30 minutes of why I should go. Decided I was going, but I took a blanket and pillow just in case I found the Tahoe more suitable!!
Event warmup:

Went to packet pickup, looked at the Martian crap for sale. Debated on getting a martian thong, but didn't have my money with me. Wouldn't the old ladies in the gym have a HUGE fit over those!!!

Jumped in Trixie's truck to help her get into a parking lot that only allowed vehicles with 2 people. The girl busted us cuz we did it right in front of her, but she still let Trix park there!!

Met up with Lisa & Tom, got skirted up, changed clothing a million times in the truck because I couldn't decide how much to wear. I ended up wearing EVERYTHING that I brought!! 3 shirts, a jacket, running tights and shorts, oh, and the pink grass skirt. I was stylish!!

Made our way down the mountain of wet grass and mud to the race start vicinity. We were all standing around talking when we heard something pop. Guess that was the race start gun....do we have to go run now??

Comments:

This was the longest run since Gasparilla, thought it would be ok. It wasn't. RKreuser decided since he had a bum knee he would hang in the BOP with me. I think he just didn't want me going back to the truck and taking a nap while everyone else ran!!

First half was into gusting wind. Accuweather said 14-24 mph, felt like 124 most of the time. I tucked in behind Rick and drafted his grass skirt wearing self. He's a good wind blocker with his jacket all poofed out and grass skirt!! Around mile 5 I was getting warmer and my ass was thawing out a bit. I felt something riding a little too low and realized it was my skirt. Apparently it was half off my ass the entire time, and no one bothered to tell me. Such sweet friends I have!! ;)

Did I mention the hills? They were everywhere! I felt really good on the way out! Even at halfway turn around, I was feeling just awesome, except that I had to pee! Had to climb this bigass hill to get to the bathroom, went potty. It is harder to pee with a grass skirt on, just by the way.

From the bathroom on, my legs started hurting. I've never had my legs hurt like that before during a race. Didn't matter if we went faster, slower, or walked, they hurt! Then I started getting bitchy. I know...I know...hard to believe, but Rick put up with an ungodly amount of BS from miles 7-13! There was a huge hill off the course that was stairs, so I sent him off to run those while I trudged onward and cussed under my breath.

Mile 8 I started getting REALLY hot. I took off my headband and my pigtails exploded over my head. Breath of fresh air, and it made all the difference, except that I now had some seriously scary hair!!

We caught up with a group of old folks doing a walk/run dealio, so we hung with them for awhile and I pledged my love to the timekeeper everytime he bellowed "WALK"!

Mile 12 we see this short little thing in a bright yaller jacket being taken prisoner by a martian on her back. Oh, it was just Trixie and her new squeeky toy. She came back so we could finish as triplets, with martians, and in grass skirts!! :) YEAH!

What would you do differently?:

Rick and Trixie would want me to say, run faster and not bitch. Oh, and probably do some training.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line, got a water and walked around thinking I was gonna freaking die. My legs hurt so bad. We headed back up the wet grass, mud soaked hill to the school gym where the post race goodies were. Got 1/2 bagel and a banana while we chatted. Decided we needed more food. I was thinking filet mignon and some kettle one, Trixie wanted McDonalds. Trixie won.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not training, wind, cold, hills, bitchiness

Event comments:

This was well put together race. The volunteers were mostly high school kids and they were freaking awesome!! It was cold and windy and they stood out there with great attitudes handing out water and compliments!! They were excellent!!!

A HUGE thank you to Jean Rennick and son for coming out to jockstrap
us!!

Despite it all, an awesome day with BT buds, AND a PR race!! 1. NO Puking at all!! WOO FREAKING HOO!! 2. NO blisters!! Alright, so I had an entire roll of sports tape around my feet, but IT WORKED!!

Isn't it great when you race with other BT-ers?  Sure beats doing it by yourself...sounds like you all had a fantastic day!!

I had the toughest time figuring out what you thought of the weather, the race, and your aches and pains.  Can you 'splain that to me again, in gory detail, please?!!

Nice run - even though you really didn't want to.  I mean REALLY didn't want to.

Glad you had fun.  You do realize that is is COLD in MI.  I can't figure out why you keep going back there to race.  They have another month of coldness at least.  Safe travels home

How could you NOT get the thong?  I betcha one of those old guys would have floated you the cash for the thong.  Too funny.  Sorry bout the legs..........good job getting out there in the first place.   Hey, it stills counts as a finish, no matter how much bitchin was involved.

You are a funny one, PT Mom.

I'm going to try and NOT follow your training game plan.

REGARDLESS, you always manage to have FUN where ever you "play", and that's what it's all about now, isn't it?!
