Subject: Oh no, a 70.3 in my future?
My business partner & wife have some friends that have already signed up for the Miami Man HIM in mid Nov. So of course today he's now trying to talk me into signing up too, "we need a goal for training." (inside my head "really?") He already looked at the '05 results and said 6hrs is our goal to reach MOP. We would make it a "business Entertainment expense" trip and get our spouses to form a relay team too. Jeez, what to do! He's a classic Type-A personality, last year he committed in 8 weeks to do the FL Escape to Alcatraz Triathlon qualification race and did it. Problem is he burns out ,gets out of shape and gets back into it. Doesn't hurt either that he has an amazing VO2 max that I'd die for!

So, it's not that is isn't doable for me. This year I'm repeating last years race season with a Sprint (early June), Sprint (Mid July), Oly (early Oct) and added a 1/2 Mary (end Nov). Already discussed a season long training plan with Mike, I guess a slight change would be needed! Weird, I was just discussing the other day with a guy that did an IM last fall who said never again. I said nothing great than an Oly for me...

Any ways, I wouldn't mind some feedback, words of encouragement, whatever you have to say!

Don

I second that, and make sure you spend as much time as possible riding in as much wind as possible.

That's one windy-a$$ bike course.

You have a training partner...your wife can be a part of it all (and compete herself)...I say go for it! You said yourself that it can be done, but I guess the real question to ask yourself is do you want to do it? I'm doing a HIM this summer...just to prove to myself that I can do it. I get a lot of satisfaction out of these types of accomplishments...maybe you will too. Don't get me wrong, I'm scared s*&%less, but that's part of the reward!

Go for it!  It's fun to go from olympic to half distance.  Just let your business partner do his own training so he doesn't burn you out.

Okay, I just uncovered this little gem. Watch the trailer and you'll be signed up for Miami Man by the end of the day: Click Miami Man

Watch out for the beep at the beginning though...

After watching that video - I want to just leave the office right now and go train for the rest of the day! I've added that to my 'favoriotes' for inspiration to have a kick-a$$ training session.

If only it would warm up!

6x so far!

I rode into work this AM, 15.8 miles and just realized that was only 28% of 56! I'm one that thankful there's still 7 months to go

I heard from a freind, who heard from a freind, etc., that if you don't want to do the HIM you can change to the Oly on race day without $ penalty, this true?

I'm going from "couch to 70.3 (WC qualifier hopefully)" in 6 months since this will be my first tri in 14 years, so why wouldn't you be able to with the work you've already put in??

Go for it!!

Hey don't get me wrong, I had plenty of aspirations for this year already planned, this would be the icing on the cake if you will. Hopefully the injury and illness bugs are nice to me the rest of the year as I paid my dues in Feb already!

One day at a time!

We would make it a "business Entertainment expense" trip

Is that somewhat similar to what Kozlowski said to his wife in planning her birthday party on Tyco $$?

Seriously, try this video too.  You may not be doing a 70.3 Series event but you are going the same distance:  http://vnews.ironmanlive.com/vnews/topstories/1119397244  Click on the Ironman 70.3 video.

If it's a  business-entertainment expense type trip, don't you have to have some clients involved somewhere along the line?  But, who cares? I say do it if it's something you aspire to.  There's certainly time to prepare, and maybe you can even dip into company time to train!!
