Subject: trishorts - prevent muscle fatigue??

Hi everyone,

Most manufacturers claim that the form-fit of trishorts prevents muscle fatigue. Is this true?

Instead of trishorts, I'm thinking of using bike shorts and then run shorts for long races (half IM) (along with a wetsuit and speedo underneath or something). I think this would be more comfortable, and I don't care about losing the extra time in transition.

Do trishorts offer any advantage on the run versus normal (loose-fitting) running shorts?

Thanks!!
Tom

Yes - all compression shorts do.

Trishorts help with less chaffing.  Trishorts will only be one layer instead of 2 layers.

If you aren't worried about your time then do what you are comfortable in but I would say just use the trishorts, one less thing to worry about during the race.

Do they prevent muscle fatigue?  I've never noticed any difference in that regard.  If it's measureable, it's probably negligible, at least at my tortoise-like speeds.

I've always thought that the whole "compression-shorts -reduces-muscle-fatigue" theory was a bunch of BS.  I definitely agree that tri shorts are better for preventing chaffing.  Everybody's different though.  Whatever works for you is the way to go.  If you find that wearing women's underwear keeps you comfortable during a race, then go for it.  Not sure that I want to know - God, please I really don't want to know -  but just do what works for you.

Not so certain about the muscle fatigue thing, but I do know that they dry a heckuvalot quicker than anything else, prevent chafing (especially inside and between the thighs) and is only one thing to worry about  ... as opposed to changing out of your speedo into bike shorts and then out of your bike shorts into running shorts.

You will definitely not want to pull your bike shorts over your wet speedo (chafing down there like your boys would never forgive you for) and running in bike shorts is like running with a diaper ...

you know this is true if you've ever tried it. if you are on a budget, run in them anyway. at least they will make you feel young again!!!
