The good thing is, although the scale isn't moving, the inches are!! I fit into a pair of pants this week that I haven't worn since last summer!! |

Lots of clothes are now too big for me. A swimsuit that I bought a size too small last fall fits great now! Losing between 1 and 2 pounds a week is huge for me. I think doing more cycling is making a big difference as is more minutes working out each week…I’m doing between 8-10 hours now most weeks. A 17 year weight low…feels great! I will miss the next two weeks weigh ins or report late the second week as we will be biking on the Greek Islands. Goals for next two weeks: 1. Make smart choices for food while on vacation 2. Have fun on our trip 3. Not gain weight while gone 4. Not stress as I get ready for 7 people to go to 3 different places on Thursday Goals for the last week: 1. Work on mental aspect of training/racing/eating-some 2. Get more sleep during the week- a bit better 3. Lose weight even a little (goal to be 175 by trip to Greece)- Yes! 4. Do something fun w/each of my 5 kids- 3 out of 5 |

My goal is to continue daily logging of nutrition & fitness, which means trying to stay on track. My daughter said I look "solid"--I took that as a compliment! As I read everyone's reports, I'm encouraged by this opportunity to be part of an authentic group of people making the effort to better themselves. Best wishes to everyone for success each day. |

I had a great week of workouts. After I ride tomorrow I will have ran, swam, and biked twice each this week and lifted once. I'm really looking forward to my day off on Sunday. Now if I can only keep this up for the next 11 weeks I should be in great shape going into the my tri in June. The toughest part of all this training is lack of rest and recovery time due to my 4 month old. He's my inspiration right now so I can deal with the lack of sleep. It's tougher for my wife anyway, so who am I to complain. |

Okay, so I did gain a little this week, but I'm expexting a friend, and I actually weighed in at 262 yesterday morning, water weight is a major pain in the butt. I was at the doctor's ffice yesterday, and she told me I'm pre-diabetic, and that I really need to keep exercising and losing weight, and I got some wonderful pills to control my insulin, etc. I'm not really very happy about it, especially since she warned me that I could lose the ability to have children some day. Anyway, I fgeel like I'm making progress on the weight front, although this wasn't the best week. Goal for this week:get back into logging my food.(I slacked last week), drink more water. Finish the YIT at the gym. |

I have been a little stressed out this week because I am starting a new career, but I still thought I would lose. At least I didn't gain. I hate being stuck in my size 20 clothes. I don't have than many things that fit me. If I could just lose 20 lbs I would be so much more comfortable in my own skin and most of my clothes. Stacie |

If I could just lose 20 lbs I would be so much more comfortable in my own skin and most of my clothes. Stacie, I was in your shoes this time last year. I started at 210 pounds and was a size 16/18 and the one thing I wanted to do was fit into regular clothing. Like you, I hated being in 'big' clothes and never felt comfortable with my body. My biggest barrier to losing weight was having a goal that was too high, so I shrunk it down to bite-size pieces. If you look at my logs, you'll see that my short term goal right now is to lose 10 pounds by June 4. Before that, it was to lose 5 pounds.. and before that, another 5 pounds. Since Feb 2005, my long term goal has stayed the same, but by making my short term goals small (5 or 10 pounds), it has made the weight loss easier mentally. I'm now at 187 - 7 pounds away from that goal... it hasn't been fast, but it has happened. Oh, and for the record, I'm now a size 11/13 and much more confident. Another thing that could help you reach your goals is logging your exercise and nutrition. The logs here are excellent for that! And there's nothing quite like writing it down to make yourself accountable for what you do.... Good luck |

Relying on the scale to measure all your successes can be really frustrating. If you keep track of your workouts, you'll see great progress there, too. I recommend setting some fitness goals (both short and long term). Some examples might be (not knowing where you're coming from):
My advice is to have a variety of goals (some speed, some distance, some consistency). Crossing off those goals (and setting new ones) can be really motivating, especially when that dial doesn't seem to budge. Plus, we all love to check out logs and cheer you on!

Regular 79 Kalaheo, Kauai | Subject: RE: Week 5 Kick Butt Zone weigh-in Hey all! I went on vacation right at the beginning of this challenge and then when I got back 2 weeks ago, I forgot I signed up! But I'm here! I started this challenge at 138 and on the scale in the garage of the vacation rental house I was in yesterday I was 135. I'm pretty sure I haven't lost 3 lbs, and this will likely be confirmed by the gym scale tomorrow morning - at which time I will be able to tell you all the truth! |
