Subject: Couple of questions
So the weather is finally breaking in the midwest. I filled up my tires on Sunday and the front tire is flat already. I bought my bike in October and I've only had it on the trainer. I was hoping to take it out on her madian voyage this weekend. This is my first bike (outside of my childhood bike). I find it strange that it has a flat front tire and I've never riden the bike. When you buy a bike and have it assembled at the bike shop....do they just throw on an old tube or do I just have a case of bad luck? I'm going to have to go back to the shop and get a new tube. Should I just assume the back tire will be going flat soon as well?

Next question. I just received some Tri Shorts I ordered. I have Chicken legs and the shorts aren't tight at all at the bottom of my leg. I can pull them up a bit and they'll be tight but its pretty bunchy in the legs and tight at the waiste. I'm wearing a large with a 34-35 inch waist.

I was wondering if there are brands out there designed for normal waiste lines but chicken legs?

Are you pumping up the tires before your trainer rides?  When was the last time you pumped up the tires??

I pump up my tires everytime before I ride- even if it's on the trainer.  I actually hadn't ridden in a few days, and my tires were pretty low yesterday before my ride and that was only from a few days of not putting air in them.

Last year my bike was trucked to St. Anthony's for my triathlon and the tires hadn't been touched in over a week and I thought I had flats.  They just needed some air since it had been awhile.

I would pump up the tire, and if it's completely flat or substainally low within a day I'd consider changing it.  You might have a slow leak.  I do know that the tires lose pressure within a day, so if you're not pumping them up regularly then that could be why it's low.

Cycle more and you'll get rid of those chiken legs.

sometimes you just get a bad tube...one with a tiny tear right by the nozzle (that's un-patchable) and leaks out slow.

While at your LBS, pick-up a small saddle bag to put in a spare tube, C02 inflator, a patch kit, tire levers and a simple bike tool ... you'll be glad you did when (not if) you get your first flat 20+ mi from home!

It must be a bad tube, cause its completely flat in four days. I need to order all the repair stuff anyway.

Oh, and for the shorts ... I have the same waist measurement and ran into the same "dumpy drawers" problem when I ordered some Pearl Izumi trishorts.

I have since found that the Pearl's and Performance Bike brand shorts are generally sized large and that I needed a medium instead of the normal large.  The medium will also fit your legs better.

Sounds like you have a leak.  You'll be good to go after it gets changed.

Get yourself a patch kit.  Then take the tube out of the tire and inflate it.  Stick it in some water until you see bubbles rising from the tube.  Hold on to that spot, dry it, put an "X" on it with a pen and patch it.  If it is leaking around the valve, throw it out.
