Total Time = 1h 53m 12s
Overall Rank = 227/253
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 5/6
Pre-race routine:

Got up about 2 hours before race, ate oatmeal with bananna, 1/2 mini bagel with pb, juice. Drove ~30 min to race site, drank sips of water along way.
Event warmup:

Jogged around block, swam about 200 meters for warm up.
Swim
  • 08m 45s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a slower swim than I wanted to have, I think because I didn't swim enough in the last two weeks. Also, I was slowing up b/c people were clogging up at the lane lines, trying to go under them.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more before the race
Transition 1
  • 04m 37s
Comments:

This needs more practice--It was definately slower than normal b/c I took off a wet top, put on tights, top and jacket. Took time getting gravel off feet

***Strange, but there was no time for T1, I think it must be included in the bike time, so this is an estimate based on my bike computer time
What would you do differently?:

Practice--running in shoes, hopping on bike
Bike
  • 59m 46s
  • 12.66 miles
  • 12.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall, I thought I did pretty well for me. I didn't know what to expect, but I made it through all the hills :)

**And, now that I've looked at the results, I'm pretty happy with my bike. Certainly more practice would have helped, but I feel pretty good about it :)
What would you do differently?:

Ride hills before, ride course before. Practice turning, getting up to high speeds, cornering at higher speeds, get toe warmers/bootie things--my feet were numb by the end
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Again need more practice, slowly got off bike
Run
  • 37m 48s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a run/walk. Got cramps. Don't know if that's because I haven't run much over the last month, or if my nutrition was bad.
What would you do differently?:

Get more runs in before race
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit, drank lots,

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not in shape :)

Event comments:

This was really a great race. Put on my MU's student foundation and HFP racing. They did a great job, lots and lots of folks on the course to direct and cheer, very well organized. I will do it again next year!

Course: Uh, yeah, the wind was bad. I've never ridden in wind like that. My bike was shaking, and once the wind pushed me and made me swerve. I think at points, I was barely moving. And it was all hills. I know what I need to work on! I got going so fast on some of the downhills that I was putting on my brakes, it was making me nervous :)

YAY! Aren't ya glad you did it?  One race down, and now you know what to tackle before the next one!

(I swear, I will become one with the hills this year!)

 Congrats!

Good for you!

The wind is always the mitigating factor in cycling in Ohio. What we lack in hills, we make up for in wind!

Nice race..you perservered through cold and hills...........next tri will be easier too!
You were smart to dress warm even if T1 took longer....you need to be warm enough.

So when is your next tri?

So bummed I didn't get out there for you.  I had planned on this being my first race of the season but I didn't get back from my conference in time.

Good on ya for fighting through all the cursed hills around our campus.

Congratulations on your race.  The wind and cold on Saturday were brutal!  It was definitely a smart move to layer up in T1.  Good job!
