Pre-race routine:

Drove 1.5 hrs from Greensboro to race site. Ate a Clif bar and drank HEED enroute.
Event warmup:

This consisted of running up the hill at the Hyatt for packet pick-up and back to the car.
Run
  • 1h 03m 34s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was good for me at this time of the year. It was difficult to have any speed at the start due to the size of the crowd but things moved along well. The last 2 miles have some really special hills in them. There should have been more people at the water stations. It took about 20 seconds to get any both times I stopeed for water. And you had to STOP to get any. If I run the half I will bring my own.
What would you do differently?:

Probably warmup more but it could not be helped. Next year we will leave earlier and probably run the half. There were thunderstorms passing through and the humidity was BAD. I will NOT wear a long sleeve shirt again this year.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, found training partner (he was 10 minutes ahead) and headed for the refreshment tent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I was happy with he time considering my overall fitness and the course itself.

Event comments:

There were lots of drink stations but not enough people at the stations. Overall there were more than enough volunteers. This was a well supported event and has made it onto Fred's "go to next year list". I had a blast and the post race was very good. We would have stayed longer but went on to Kings Mountain, NC to check out the Over the Mountain tri course.

GREAT JOB FRED!!!!

I like how you called those last hills "special hills" .   Heh.  That made me LOL.

Congrats on a great time buddy!  You're doing awesome and I can only hope to keep up with you at Mission Man this year.
