Does anyone have information to share with a newcomer? Tips based on having run this course in the past? Especially interesting to me: How far apart are the swim waves and how are the participants divided for the swim waves?

This is my first year so all I can tell you is the bike and run is flat. Oh yeah, and the last 20 miles of the bike is into a head wind and the road.....well lets just say it will test you mentally!!! It needs to be paved pretty bad.

The swim waves are just like a regular tri, 3 minutes apart by age group, not sure about the 3 minutes part. The bike course is flat, the last part on highway 53 is a slight uphill and usually into the wind. That road does suck, I rode it Saturday and was surprised to find that they have paved short sections of it, maybe 100 yards or so every once in a while. The run is a 2 loop, out and back affair. Flat but no shade, if it is hot it can be a problem.
Good luck, see you out there.

How "bad" is Bad for the road? I live on the IN-MI border, and we have BAD roads! I still find decent pavement, but the last thing I need is my last 60-70 minutes with a shook up arse and colon! I am going down to White Lake with at least 5 other racers and our family/support. Anybody got a BT flag or something. I see 12 BT'ers are racing... we should wear the tattoos or something.

The worst thing about this road is there is like a seal in the road like every 30 yards so you end up with this little bounce everytime you go over it. Its like a speed bump for ants or something. When I first turned on it I was like this isn't as bad as people made it out to be but after spending about 10-12 miles on it........I was getting annoyed. If it was just rough road I would have no problem.....its that dang little seal  in the road that gets you.

No BT flag here!!

my first HIM here...little nervous! I've been warned about the last 15 miles of the bike - I'm going to save a bit in my tank for this part of the race. On the brighter side, the swim is supposed to be very clear water and a sandy bottom - sounds great! Let's hope for an overcast day so the run doesn't drag on and on.

It is my first HIM too...and my second tri (assuming I finish my sprint this weekend).  My bf (screen name: theattorney) and I are staying at Langston's Apts.  We would be game for getting together either Friday or Saturday, as there is not much happening in White Lake or E-town.

And I am a total nervous wreck

I am going down with an entourage it seems. I live in Indiana, and about 5-6 people from my tri team are coming, in addition to some extra family members. I don't know what is going on before and after race, but I can tell you that you probably won't be wanting to move a whole lot after doing that race, that is if you race it hard. I am always interested in meeting up with fellow BT'ers. We ought to corrdinate something.

I plan on packing the cooler Friday morning. After the race, I plan on drinking beer carb-loading and cheering everyone on (if I am ahead of anyone). Should be a lot of fun!!! Saturday grilling out and then Sunday, bloody marys and cheering on the sprinters. Sounds fun!!

Any guess on the water temp? I hope it is either wetsuit legal or very warm, like 82-84. I do not like that 78-81 range.

Wow... is the water temp over 78 degrees? I hope not. Also, it looks like crummy weather. 50% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. I guess my ride and run brick this past Saturday in the wind and rain might pay off!!!

I am going to the pre-race meeting at 6:00...and probably doing a short OWS, bike, and run beforehand.  Maybe we can all meet before or after the pre-race meeting?

I will be cheering at the sprint on Sunday...and will be a BOPer on Saturday

My # is 592. I hope to be there early enough Friday to get in a short swim and bike and maybe drive the bike course. I hope to be at the meeting at 6:00. Can't wait!

I will attempt to drive back home Saturday afternoon...

Okay...so I started this thread and I have no good information to offer. If you are looking for a tri rookie...I'll be in bib #713. Good luck to each of you.

Hot day. Not hotter than 2001 when I did it- 95 degrees that day! ...but hot this year. 85ish. Today, it was in the low 50s & raining where I live (3 hours from White Lake). Strange. I cramped during the swim, but managed to pull out a decent race for me. My bike leg was good.
