Hey everyone, newbie needing some help. Can't decided on which one to get.
Need some help deciding on which tri-bag to get or suggestions. I have been looking at the Louis Garneau Tri-Pack Transition Bag or Zoot Sports Tri Bag - 2006 both of which could be viewed here:
http://www.all3sports.com/index.php?cName=gear-triathlon-bags
Has anyone used either one of these bags or know any pros or cons to each. Any help would be great.

Hope everyone's training and season is going good.

J.T.

I had the Tyr bag but replaced it with last year's Zoot bag. I haven't actually used the Zoot yet, but the things I like best about it so far are:
1. The overall bag depth is smaller - it sits closer to my back and teh compression straps pull it even closer. This helps since it's closer to my center of gravity and I don't have to bend forward to avoid being pulled over backwards. The Louis Garneau looks deeper, similar to the Tyr.
2. Lots of pockets! The Tyr didnt' have enough organization for me, and the interior mesh pockets didn't seem as logical - what IS that pocket on top of a pocket for? The Zoot has a panel in the most outside section with lots of pockets that help me with my organizationally challenged self. There are two shoe pockets for running and cycling shoes, the helmet pocket outside actually works - yup, lots of pockets.
3. It is comfortable - the straps fit me well and are well-padded.
4. It is BIG - plenty of room for whatever I need.
Things I don't like as well about the Zoot:
1. It is BIG! So, this is also in the good category but this thing is huge. It's a little embarrassing just how big it is!
2. Not sure yet about the clamshell design. It opens sideways like a book and I think the compartment for the wet stuff is in the very back. I'll have more of an opinion after I've used it for an actual tri with all the associated nerves that go along with it.
3. The expense. I justified it with two facts: one is the fact that I spent so much on my other gear that this is just a drop in the bucket. The real one, though, is that I hope to be doing this for a long time, and even though I will upgrade my gear over the years, I want exactly the right bag starting now!

The Tyr is also a fine bag with lots of good features - love the zip-out, drop-down wetsuit pocket on the bottom. I just found that the Zoot fits me better.

Good luck, CC

P.S. why don't the sites show any of these bags OPEN!?!?? That would be a big help.

Whew, all that being said, when I asked the question of this group, most people who responded didn't use a tri-specific bag - just regular old duffels and backpacks work just fine.

I also have a Tyr Transition Pack, which I find work great, although I have not yet used it with a wetsuit.

Right now with the 20% off at TriSports, you can get it for $40 through Friday. I think I paid $60 at my local tri shop.

Some of my local triathlons require you to park away from the transition areas, so it's nice to have something that you can easily transport on your back while biking. That's the primary reason for me. And it is nice to have the mesh bottom for storing wet gear.

I have the 2005 Zoot sports bag. You can litterally fit a kitchen sink in it. I am contemplating putting another bike in the bag for my next tri, just in case In all seriousness this bag is more than you will ever need. It is on sale at trisports.com right now as they are closing it out.

Question: Will a sleeveless full leg wetsuit fit in "wet compartment" of the TYR backpack?

I have a Chrome Metropolis messenger bag. It's my tri-bag/briefcase/gymbag/carry-on luggage/cooler(it's waterproof and will hold a 12-pack plus a lot of ice.)

www.chromebags.com.

It's not a tri-specific bag, but it works great. It is just barely big enough to hold my shoes, helmet, wetsuit, and a small towel. I actually like that it won't hold much more than that. It keeps me from dragging unnecessary crap into the transition area.

Just received the USATri Beijing Backpack . It is pricey but a nice bag (and tax-deductible). Includes rain cover, upper and lower compartments for wet/dry gear, a hydration bladder pocket, a few smaller compartments (internal and external), adjustable shoulder harness, and a nice outside strapping system for helmet. However, it might be a bit tight when it comes time to pack a wet-suit with both pairs of size 13 shoes.
