Comments: Interesting first effort at the CCTT. Felt good about my race for a first effort. That's about where I thought my speed would be, so I was happy with that. I need to attack the corners and downhills a little harder next time, and work on pacing strategy out of the gate and on the uphills (meaning go easier and not force a recovery mid-race). Overall though, I'm very happy with that for a first race. What would you do differently?: I need work on cornering. I coasted through too much of the turn around and the big left hand turn on the way back. I should carry better speed through those, and push harder going downhill. Overall, pacing wasn't terrible, but I think I can go faster if I even out the pace over the course of the race instead of going out hard, hitting the hills hard, and then forcing a recovery later. Post race
Warm down: Back on the trainer, sipping endurox and eating a clif bar, talking with Mark, Stacie and Ryan. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing really. I mean, I could say training, but that would be BS, I've been training my ass off. Maybe I should say I could have started training earlier instead of waiting until I was 32 to start doing triathlon training. Nah, other than better pacing and attacking the course I was fine. Rush home from work, load the rest of the stuff in the car and rack the bike. Got there plenty early, got my number and race registration stuff, talked to Ryan and Mark.
Light stretching, then got on the trainer with the iPod. Rode for a solid 20 minutes with spin ups and short hard efforts. Got my HR up above 170 during the WU, but only for a very short time. Legs felt a little heavy during the warm up, which had me a little worried, but it wasn't a problem on the course.
