This will be my first triathlon. I'm just seeking some advice from race alums. My biggest fear is the race transitions. Ugh! I'd love to get to know you all a bit better. I can always use motivation! Talk to you all soon.

This is a great race to make your first. It is a nice course and very well organized. The first 1/2 mile or so of the run is on a "trail" which came as a suprise to me the first time I did this race. The transition area is very well marked so just practice your transitions during training and get there early enough to rack your bike and walk through everything and warm up. Your nerves will thank you. Have fun!

I did this race last year and really enjoyed it. A couple of things to watch out for: the entrances and exits from transition are at opposite ends and you need to check that out carefully beforehand. Also, Iowa's water quality is just appalling so you should be careful not to swallow any water and to get cleaned off as soon as possible after the race. I've come down with a respiratory infection after a couple of Iowa races, and the only thing out of my usual routine was swimming in a lake instead of a pool.

Yeah Iowa's water is dirty! I've been fearing that for awhile now. I figure if I grew up swimming in the Mississippi then I should be okay. The respiratory infection thing had to suck. I hope that doesn't happen to me. Thanks for the help!

I never had any bacterial troubles due to the Iowa water but I did grow up on a farm eating dirt. That seems to have strengthened my immune system. More parents should feed the kids a good diet of dirt and worms.

How long before they announce the date for next year's Quad Cities Tri? I want to plan for this one and make sure I don't miss it.

It has been the Saturday of Father's Day weekend every year from what I know and I've done it 4 times. That might help.
