In an article I read recently, Peter Reid stated he is cyclist first, a triathlete second. Statistics (don't know where I got this one), say the most triathletes were/are runners before tri-ing.

What were you before tri-ing? I was a couch potato

There is room for "other" if you were something weird like an avid chess, table tennis, golf, black Jack champion turned triathlete (or something like that).

I was all about some tennis. I try to get in a least one match a week with my wife, but I used to play singles or doubles four to five times a week with many different people.

All State Soccer Goalie,

YEAH FOR GOALIES!!!!!  The LAST line of defense!!!

Also a H.S. soccer goalie for 2 years, track (110m High Hurdles, 300m Inermediate Hurdles, High Jump, triple jump, tried pole vault...that was laughable), 3 years of baskerball, 1 year of swim.

In college, 1 year as freshman team soccer goalie.   After that just lifting weights trying to achieve a bodybuilding physique.  That wasn't happening without Vitamin S and I wasn't going that route.

I was an exerciser with no real goal or ambition. I have never played sports. never been on any teams or clubs. I have always been a tomboy and like playing backyard football, and backpacking and stuff. I have exercised off and on through my life, walking, or leisuring riding a bike, or doing machines in the gym, mostly to help control weight. I never really knew what real exercise was until I started this training though. I used to say that I did not sweat when I exercised, I just wasn't that type of person............ I was wrong!

Swimmer, nothing compared to Jim but halfway decent and party animal. Both at the same time, then just party animal. I could throw gym rat in the mix but that only lasted for a while on a couple of occasions, it was more for swimming.

Was into the whole powerlifting thing, until I realized that I was sacrificing a lot of general fitness just to eek higher lifts.

I raced 4 cylinder Mini-Stock cars on a 1/4 asphalt oval. The most prevelant car in this class was and still is the Ford Pinto.

Undersized volleyball player. Old age set in and I had to switch to slow triathlete. (Why do we always want what we can't have?)

I started off as a waterpolo player/swimmer in high school, though I was never any good at either, so I turned to wrestler/muay thai kickboxer for a bit. I've been a gym rat at the swimming pool I lifeguarded at ever since I was fifteen, with a two year break in the middle somewhere. At one point I was able to bring out a 45.5" veined up chest, 16" arms, a 28" waist, and an 8 pack all up and down! I was doing well at triathlon until nursing really affected me and rotted my body away. Arrrgh! I still weigh the same, but hardly any muscle. Need to find a new career. Would give anything to go back three years back; loved every moment of it!

Played Football, wrestled, Track and Field in high school. Played Football in college. I was out a few years and missed physical competition so I thought this would be the hardest thing to do. It is a lot more exciting than golf.

i was always involved in some type of sport, never a couch potatoe, all through my school years i've been in track and cross-country, played tennis and indoor volleyball and soccer, after high school i stopped running, still kept up with volleyball, soccer but i got curious about roller hockey (my boyfriend at the time played, he was the goalie) i told him i wouldn't mind trying out for a team and he said girls can't play hockey, well i dumped him and i've been playing roller hockey as a goalie for the last 12 years. this will be my last last year since i'm totally into the whole tri sport.  i just never thought i would be a swimmer....

started as a cyclist.  Was hard core for two years until I figured out I was too slow and could take the time away from studying to devote to training.  Four years later I move to South Dakota and start running due to peer pressure.  I like it and start getting fast.  I hear of this thing an hour away called an "X-terra off road triathlon" and it sounds like fun.  That day I look it up, and in the same search find this site.  It's been history ever since.

high school swimmer, university rower.  But first and foremost I was/am a horse back rider for years and years.  Thats what I was serious about, Eventing.  The triathlon of the horse world.  There is nothing quite like it.
