Just figured I'd get the thread for this race rolling.  :) Exactly one month to go before race day!  How's everyone doing?  My training is coming along ok, I'm just hoping it's not as hot this year as last year.  I heard it was 112°F in Tempe that day!

I'll be there, I'm thnking about riging a mister to my aero bars. It's going to be a warm one. I wouldn't plan on a wet suit either.

Training here is going well also; the days I can get it all in around the thunderstorms and my law school schedule.  I will be ready though.  My first Olympic distance -- if I make it out of the water I'll be set.

It will be warm, but I doubt as warm as last year -- the temp. that day last year broke a record that was about 20 years old and was one of the hottest days on record in the Phoenix area for May.  The worst part about the heat that day is it was already 100 by the time the age group sprint race was ending around 10:30, and was over 105 by the time the ITU men and women were finishing.  HOT, HOT, HOT

Definitely don't plan on a wetsuit.  They weren't allow last year and the water had been flowing until about 6 weeks before the race - this year, as far as I know, they have not had the damn open at all.  Well, I just checked the water conditions for the lake and the water actually seems to be a little cooler than last year.  The last reading on the site is for March 20th and shows the water temp. at ~ 59 -- last year on relatively the same date it was ~ 62.  It made 80 by race day last year.  If you want to keep an eye on the water conditions at Tempe Town Lake they post them at this website: http://www.tempe.gov/lake/Water/water_main.htm

All we can do is hope for a water temp. readings of about 76 degrees and an air temp of about 70 at race start and in the 80s on the run!

Take care - keep on training.  See ya all race day.  -- hey, speaking of are we going to set up a BT meet and greet at the race?

- Tim

It's good to see I won't be the only Oly distance virgin out there.  This race will be my first this year so I'm chomping at the bit for it.

I've been planning on no wet suit since the day I signed up back in March, but if we end up being able to wear them, then that would be just fine with me.  My main objective when it comes to swimming is to keep from drowning so I'll take any help I can get.

Good news is, with one month to go, we're still in the low to mid 80's, so let's think cool thoughts people!

That would be great!  The Race Nexus shows several BTers signed up for this race.  Although I have no idea how to organize such a thing.

I'll be sporting my new BT tattoos on race day.

Its around 80 today, but we have had some high 80s and low 90s already. It gets warmer in Phoenix than it does in Tucson. Weather.com is calling for 93 on May day.

Click on the "BT store" link, then "Accessories."  They are 10 for $10.  They came out quite nice!

Hi All:

I just this morning got a new link for weather conditions and water temp. at Tempe Town Lake.  Below is part of the email message I got from the person with the city -- the link is: http://www.tempe.gov/wx/weather1.aspx

The updated water temperature reading from April 18th - the reading is 69.3 F. This is our official reading from our water quality contractor. The reading is taken at a depth of 1 meter.

From the Water_Main site that you were at before (this is the link I posted the other day) we have a link to "Current weather conditions" (the link above will take you directly to this) that goes to a small weather station that the City of Tempe connected up at the west dams of Town Lake. The water temperature there as of 8:32 AM is 70 F (http://www.tempe.gov/wx/weather1.aspx). This page is updated every ten minutes. The water reading is about 12" deep. It is considered a good indicator but can read slightly warmer in the afternoon than the official 1 meter reading.

Enjoy;
Tim

I don't know if anyone's been tracking the H2O temps, but just over the last few days it's been over 78 at 6:30.  Today it was 80 degrees.

So, unless they do something with the management of the lake, it's pretty safe to say that there won't be wetsuits.

Good luck to everyone on Sunday, and have fun!

I did the splash & dash last weekend and the water was fine without a wetsuit. The RD joked that if you can swim 100 meters in 1 hour that you shouldn't wear your wetsuit.

I just noticed this was a beach start.  So that probably means a beach finish too for the swim.  I'm brining a water bottle to have in transition to hose off any sand picked up by my wet feet on the way into T1.  I really don't want sand abraiding my feet for over 31 miles!

If it is a beach start, you wont have to worry about sand... you have to run up a hill and many stairs to get to the transition area. It is a little bit of a hoof after the swim. If you have sand on your feet then, you are magnetic to sand.

I'll be at the Tribe and AZ Tri Club tents after the race. I'll also have my Chivas jersey on (see my photo album for pics of it w/me in it).

By the way the Tribe and AZ Tri Club tents will have beer!!!

I'll be wearing a purple Tucson Tri Girls jersey.  There may be others from our club up there, but I'll be the only one with BT tattoos on the back of my left leg and front of my left shoulder.

Good luck everyone!

I'll be there - riding my bike down this afternoon for packet pickup and to check out the transition area.  My big thing will be to remember to bring a bottle of the coppertone sport sunscreen spray so that I can put more on each transition.  Otherwise I will be pink and crispy by the end.

Current weather reports are saying a high tomorrow between 101 and 105, so not as bad as last year.

I'll be wearing a blue/silver DeSoto Powersuit.  And, I will have my "I train with my friends at BT" t-shirt on post race to cover up at least part of the crispy.

Good call on "remembering the sunscreen" at each transition!!

Beer at the AzTriClub tent, I'm there.

I'll be wearing the most anonymous of clothes...the blue silver desoto top and black shorts.  If there's beer, I'll definitely show up for that (and chile, there better be or there'll be hell to pay! ).

I agree - it held up to my shower fairly well though...

I'll be in the first wave as well - number 19.  This is good, since it means I won't be crossing the finish line alone at the end.  In between I'll be running around with my BT shirt on!

See you all there - definitely come by the tribe and aztriclub booths!

It looks like Tribe did not show up, but I had my Guinness with AZ Tri Club.
