BSM also encourages women to shave their heads

Maybe I should have posted this under gear review.  Then I could get knowledge and not opinions

If I wanted to get a real tan I could lay out in my backyard in the scorching 90 degree heat. But I prefer to avoid laying out to protect my skin- which is why I would rather get a spray tan to look tan, than to get a real tan. It's just my personal preference and I don't see why anyone thinks it's silly. Some people prefer to not bake in the sun and I am one of those I'm just wanting to know if anyone has tried spray tanners/self tanners and what they thought, not "should I or should I not use them?"

You're right, you didn't ask that specifically. But, in asking which one to use, there is the implicit option of not using any.
Beyond that, I prefer not to lay out and bake either. But I also prefer not to spray brown goo on my skin, just so I look like I was laying out baking in the sun. Does it matter how tan you are?

You're saying there's no knowledge behind our opinions? I have the knowledge that it doesn't matter to me whether women are tan or not, and that people would be better off not being so insecure about body image. Or at least Black Spandex Man does.

I've learned alot from him.

He's a giver.

Where is BSM when you need him?

No one told you to go lay out.

I'm still going with option 4: go train without a shirt. It works. Kills 2 birds with one stone.

Ok, no, I'm going with the lotions. Go to CVS, get the no name brand of self tanner, even better save your money for your HRM and get the kind that doesn't have the pigment indicator. It doesn't matter which. Go home, slather it on.

Then post pics the next day so we can see if it looks good (non streaky or orange).

GOOD LUCK!

Not worth it. Go ride your bike in your sports bra! That'll work!

I nominate Comet as Spokesperson for All Women.

I tried Mystic Tan once and it was great for a few hours, but it turned my nails orange until they grew out(I didn't use enough of the nail stuff they give you apparently) and it started washing off very unevenly. Seriously, I looked like I would if I had rolled around in mud then somebody gave me a once-over with a garden hose. There were streaks in the tan. Streaks! What am I, a badly waxed car? Needless to say I haven't tried it again.

This is from my original post:

My question is- do all spray tans only last about 2 days??  What has been your experience?  Do self tanners last longer than spray tans or does it all just depend on the person???

Apprently that's not clear enough???

I have not heard good things about mystic tan. Again, pay the money to go to a "real" solon and be airbrushed by a technician. The key to having a good spray tan is to be sure to exfoliate very well before you go in. That will help insure that the color doesn't "catch" in weird places like your elbows or heels. Also, you need to put lotion on the bottoms of your hands to make sure those don't catch the color. One more thing: avoid excessive hand washing, especially the first few hours after the tan. And use gloves when you wash dishes. That will help to make sure it doesn't wear off in weird places. I did this all last summer (about every 2 weeks) and had great success. I really think it depends on the technician who applies the self-tanner (air brushing) and the product that she uses (my person uses Bronzi).

And I agree with Runner Girl, it's healthier than baking in the sun and it won't age your skin the way a tanning bed will (not to mention skin cancer).

Heh...it's plenty clear. But you got 3 or 4 people that said yeah, it lasts a couple of days. Case closed, so let the fun begin.

Like SAG said, this is COJ...you know how it works.

You can't really get a decent answer today! I've heard the Neutrogena tan cream works pretty well. I've never tried the spray tan but I wanted to try it last year. I was going to a wedding with a strapledd dress and had really funny tan lines from training. I thought maybe the spray tan would cover them up a little. The lady at the tanning place told me that it wouldn't work with just one or two applications (I only had a week) so I ended up using an actual tanning booth.

This is the only advice I can offer - don't do the booth! I had never been to a tanning salon in my life, but lots of my friends had and told me it weas no big deal. I figured it woudl be OK this one time. So - I went in - filled out some form about how dark I get and how many times I've burned, etc. They set me up in some stand-up booth and I stood there with little stickers over my eyes. Three days later I went again. I was FRIED! This was last June and I still have tan lines from that stupid booth.

The worst part - my tan lines still showed. Nobody noticed though - they were all laughing at my red skin. I wish I had tried the spray instead! Oh well, lesson learned, training tan lines are better than feeling like I'm on fire at a friend's wedding.

Yes, all spray tans only last from about 1 day to 7 days. Define self-tanners. Aren't they all essentially a spray-on tan?

Self tanners are the ones you buy at the store and apply yourself.  Mystic tan or whatever it's called is usually done at a tanning salon.  You stand in a both and get sprayed- it costs more than self tanners I think.

Here is what I have learned. (through friends)

Self tanners (from store) do nothing but turn you orange.
Spray on tans work temporarily 2-3 days. Unless you're Ross (Friends) then you are screwed.

If you want, Pay me to stand next to you at St. A's. You will seem extremely tanned by comparision. I am the whitest person in florida.

Oh and this thread really should have been a poll....hmmm almost every thread in COJ should be a poll.
