Subject: Minimalist shoes for wider feet - suggestions?

I'm beginning to lay base for a full marathon next April, and thought that this (low mileage period) might be a good time to experiment with a more minimal shoe (I want to strengthen both feet generally, and my right ankle in particular after a skiing injury suffered a few years back).  The problem:  I've got low arches and wide feet, and have been having a heck of a time finding shoes that will work.

Current shoes - Pearl Izumi Syncro Float III; Nike Structure Triax 12 (mostly retired)

I tried on a Brooks Pure Flow last night, and while the width was right, there was some interference at the ball of my foot with some of the reinforcing webbing that I could foresee getting really annoying within a few miles

I also tried on a Saucony Kinerva 2, but my right arch seemed to collapse down onto the midsole, making even walking around the store uncomfortable.

Looking for something lightweight with minimal to moderate ramp - I'm not ready for a 5 fingers/trail glove/Hatori just yet.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a widefoot as well and don't fit too many shoes very comfortably. I've found that shoes with a lighter mesh upper that expands well fit me the best. I was in Newtons for awhile (and still use them here and there) but now I mainly run in the Saucony Grid Type A4 and Fast Twitch 5 (for longer distances).

I think the Altra Instinct would be worth a look, and also the Skechers GoRun.

I ended up going with a Pearl Izumi Streak II (racing flat with 9mm of drop).  Took them out on Sunday for 4 miles with mixed pacing, and they felt great!

I wear the Saucony Mirage- and love them! Ive run barefoot quite a bit, so moving to the minimal trainer was not much of an issue. This shoe feels like I've got nothing on! I also have the Kinvara and the Mirage has more support. I've run 4 marathons in the Mirage. Good luck with your search.

New Balance Minimus come in 2E, so they offer a little extra width over the standard D widths of many shoes.  For what it's worth, I spent 3 plus months in a pair of VFF Bikilas, and they fit my normally 4E foot really well.  That being said, I am done with wearing something that minimalist for running after my first ever metatarsal stress fracture running distances a fraction of what I was doing in traditional running shoes.
