I'll admit I haven't done my due diligence on the search, but just wanted to start a new thread.

For the longest time I get "device not found" when I try to upload workouts from my 305. I have the latest communicator, latest Garmin firmware. The unit charges in the cradle but just doesn't communicate. I'm on a Mac running 10.7 but also had troubles on 10.6. Even tried it on a PC.

Any suggestions? Maybe new cable? Maybe new cradle?

What version of Communicator do you have? I've had this problem with v3.0 and downgrading to v2.9.3 solved it.

I'm have no suggestions to offer, but can sympathize as I'm in the exact same boat. Mac OS I just figured that my unit was beginning to die.... with perhaps a reason to upgrade. Mac OS 10.7.2, latest firmware on my 305 and Garmin and latest communicator. I'll try and figure out how to downgrade communicator.. and hopefully that will work.

I don't know for sure if this will help, but Garmin has a GREAT website with fixes for EVERYTHING!  I managed to 'fix' a problem with mine with a response under the FAQ section.  That might be a really good place to start, as there seems to be trends in problems and Garmin seems to have pretty simple solutions on the website.   Good Luck!  Wink

A couple of things could have happened (that have both happened to me)...

The Garmin itself is separating from itself and needs to be re-glued or the unit has warped and doesn't fit in the cradle anymore.  Try pushing the unit into the cradle or squeezing it into the cradle while it is plugged in to the pc and see if it now finds the unit.  If so, this is your problem.

I finally got frustrated since the unit won't hold a charge for over 5 hours anymore and bought something else.  Good luck.

I had this problem recently.  Try right clicking on the Garmin Connect icon (mine is in the bottom tray on my screen).  You should see something that says "Pair with New Devices".  Make sure that it is "enabled".  Mine was set to "disabled" which was the only problem.

I reinstalled Garmin connect and it seems to be working again. Thanks for the suggestions. Although it can be a pain to use at time, I still love this unit.

All too often I have to just remove my 305 from the cradle and put it back on a couple of times to get it 'recognized'. It'll charge, but not upload, just as you describe. Perhaps specific contact points are for data transfers and others are for power, and the ones for data aren't making contact. I don't know, I just know that it's frustrating as heck.

I have had a couple  of issues, that also being one of them. One thing I do know, is I clip on my Garmin Icon to open it which brings me to a new screen; I then place the cursor over the garmin name, right clip to open the drop down options, and then i click on "RUN as administrator".

My 305 at times tells me its unable to transfer info/data, so i always just open it this way.

Hope this may help.

How long do your 305s last for? I've read ~12 hours which should be plenty of time fpe, e to comokwte IM but haven't done a training long enough to teat. Would hate to get13.1 into the run and have my watch die!

I think around 8 hours is a reasonable expectation of the 305.

When I have done an IM... I used my Garmin on the bike and switched out and used my boyfriend's Garmin for the run. I am slow and I knew it wouldn't last long enough.

When my boyfriend did his IM, he did the same thing. Switched Garmin's in T2.

Figured it out!!! Always the simplest thing. I was sorting through the multitude of usb, camera, hard drive cables that I've collected through the years and found one for a Cannon camera with the same size plug. It works! It was just the cable.

You should be fine.  My 305 lasted through both of my IMs just fine (15 hrs and 13.5, less the swimming).  Obviously, the battery capacity will be affected at some point due to use but you should still have plenty of play.  Just make sure you have it set to locate every 5 seconds vs. every 1 second as that is a battery drain (and make sure you have a reasonable "lap" setting on the bike as the lap beeping probably doesn't help).

Also, I've had some phantom battery drain issues lately so make sure that after you take it off of the charger you turn it on and then back off again.  I would charge it and then go to use it a couple of days later only to be greeted by a "low battery".

For peace of mind, I put a cheap wristwatch in my special needs just in case. I did run/walk intervals so the thought of my battery dying was especially unnerving for me.
