how about we don't have a distance goal, but a performance goal?? I'm not an expert runner, but it might be good to have a test-set during your workout each week, and by the end of it try to beat your goal.

For instance, in the swimming pool we used to have this set every week for four weeks of 10x100@1:30, holding as fast as you can for all of them. At the beginning I was going 1:08 per 100, and by the end I was at 1:06 or 1:05.

How would we measure this?  Track workouts?  Or just a weekly pace-based workout that would show improvement over the month?
