FoggyGoggles - 2011-11-14 10:51 AM Found this little gem of a trail this morning! I visit Dallas once or twice a month on business and stayed close enough to the trail to hop on and get a nice run in. Also found a nice place for dinner tonight. Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown it is!

I generally avoid that trail. There is too much <ahem> "inspiration" to run too hard and hurt myself. I'm a regular at White Rock which has a similar "issue", but a 9 mile loop keeps the pace down.

The annual Katy Trail 5K race is fun, too. Next one is 5/17/2012.

I'll be there thanksgiving weekend, stying about seven miles north of the trails.  Wheres a good place to park to access the trails?  Also where is White Rock?

Also any good places or groups close by to get a good ride in?

For Katy Trail, you can try parking behind Lamps Plus near the Knox St and Travis St intersection.

White Rock Lake is off Mockingbird Lane. 75 south, exit Mockingbird, turn left (east) on Mockingbird. Take the right ramp down at the West Lawther Dr (White Rock Lake Park) sign. Turn right at the stop sign and there's multiple places to park.

I definitely recommend White Rock Lake.  9 mile loop is cool. Very flat!  As for a ride there are many rides.  If you want a very difficult ride 8:30 Saturday at Francis and Forest Hills. This is the local roadie ride.  So bring a road bike.  TT bikes are ok, but if you are new to the group then you might catch a little hell.  Tri group rides: You could meet at 8 a.m. Saturday  same intersection.  Great group of triathletes with a group called fit2train.  It is a moderate ride of about 60 miles.  There are others but sounds like you plan to be in this white rock lake area.

thx for the info aspiring & trimikey.  Looks like I'll b running White rock.  Unfortunately I just found out that my daughter will be playing both fri. and sat. 8:00 am tournament soccer games.

What about sunday rides in the area?  We will be staying close to the intersec of LBJ frwy and 75.

Also what about Anderson-Bonner Park trail?  I plan on doing long run at White rock and a short run possibly at White rock again or somewhere with that 3-6 mile loop.

And lastly...any cool things going on around this area of Dallas over the Holiday weekend?  Looks like daughters games will be in the a.m.'s and early evenings.  Looking for ideas to entertain the fam instead of being cooped up in a hotel with five girls soccer teams and parents!  :0

thnx again in advance!

There will be tons of things to do this weekend for the entire family.  I would recommend going to www.dallasobserver.com and go to the Events Calendar to decide.
