While I have not made it to starting line yet (May 19, IMTX 2012) I feel like I have learned a lot so far. As my training is really increasing, I am learning that consistency is the absolute key. Getting out the door when you don't really feel like it can turn into that run that you are so glad you didn't miss.

Maybe I am really naive but I have never been *that* intimidated by the distance. I think I have just known so many people that have done it and have read so many thousands of race reports that the knowledge that so many others have gone the distance before makes it more achievable for me. I feel though like that perception needs to change and I need to respect the distance a lot more before race day.

My last point is a scary one to me. It seems like I have known a lot of folks who have either DNF'd or finished way slower than their capabilities due to GI/Nutrition issues. This is really motivating me to figure out exactly what works for me so that I can train with it consistently so this *hopefully* does not happen to me!

Thanks to everyone for their insight!

Life is mix between three things:  what you must do, what you want to do, and everything else just taking up time.  IM training helps clarify what belongs in each category.  Happiness occurs when you are able to focus on just the first two.

Hi wannabefaster,  you had an awesome year in 2011.  Going from Olympic distance to Kona with 11:07.  Job well done.
