do you doctor up the greek yogurt at all? these are good snacks, me thinks. I forgot about jerky. And you're so right about nuts. Why are they so pricey?? lol

Sometimes I buy the ones with fruit already in there, but I've tinkered with taking fresh fruit and making a compote by cooking them down with some stevia.  So far it's not exactly right but okay to mix in yogurt.

Sweet potato fries - super easy!

Peel a sweet potato and cut into sticks (like fries) or disc rounds (like chips).
Place on an aluminum foil lined cookie sheet.
Drizzle sweet potato pieces with ~1T Olive Oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Mix with your hands to lightly coat.

Bake at 425-445 degrees for around 25 minutes - until they brown up. You can turn them if you want, but it's not entirely necessary.

There are lots of variations... I need to try the one with Chipotle Chili Powder and lime juice one of these days.

Also... Greek yogurt w/ fruit - Chobani is my favorite brand. I'm addicted to the pineapple variety:

Lately I'm on an apple slices with almond butter kick.  I also really like sliced cukes and/or baby carrots dipped in guacamole.  Both are super yummy, healthy and really filling!

As a teacher, I rarely get time to snack during the day, but when I do, almonds, cashews, and some of the less-sweet energy bars like Cliff Mojo, Optimum, and Carmen's (an Australian brand) are my favorites. Unfortunately these are only sporadically available and/or tremendously expensive here in Vietnam, as is dried fruit, whole grains, and basically any healthy snack. I'm guessing I spend $10+ a week just on nuts; maybe $5 on energy bars when I can find them. In the US, my snacking expands to Trader Joe's fruit/nut mixes--the one with almonds, cashews, dried cherries, and pineapple is a favorite, peanut butter and banana on whole wheat toast, apples with peanut butter, and Kashi with kefir and berries.  Occasionally a few squares of dark chocolate. My snack downfall is Trader Joe's baked tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa--I could eat a ridiculous amount, so I make sure not to buy too much dip at once! Not available in Vietnam and local attempts at chips and salsa are disgusting. Likewise, love hummus with veggies but it's very expensive here and raw veggies require some effort to make safe, so I generally have it only at my favorite Western cafe.

I hardly have a "snack," but focus on getting two adequate meals each day, with breakfast being the largest, followed by an adequate lunch five to six hours later.

If I need a third meal in the evening, then it would be a "snack" of banana ice cream:

2 frozen bananas (peeled)

1/4 cup cashews

2 Tb Better Than Milk powder (vanilla)

1/4 cup coconut water (or vanilla coconut or almond milk)

Blend in a food processor, using only enough liquid to blend ingredients without making it soupy.  Top with barley malt sweetened carob chips, shredded coconut, maybe coarsely chopped blueberries, strawberries or pineapple (think banana split) and a layer of carob sauce (or one packet of chocolate Clif shot).

To make it even creamier with an ice cream texture, put ice cream in freezer until it hardens, then thaw and enjoy.

Hi Sharyn,

I used to eat several smaller meals each day, but, while doing more research, I found that I was not allowing my stomach enough time to adequately digest the first meal.  If that happens, and I introduced more food into the stomach before the first meal was digested, fermentation would result from the food.  Hence, I would feel bogged down instead of energized.

As long as I get adequate effective calories morning and afternoon, I never get hungry through the day.  What I once thought was hunger (while on five or six meals a day), was really my body telling me that I was dehydrated and needed more water.  Sure enough, once I drank water at those times, the "hunger" disappeared.

I eat until content, not full and bloated.  When a burp arises at the end of my meal (usually after 30 min, while eating slowly, and no water with meals), that's my stomach's signal that I've had enough.  If I listen and don't add more food, I feel fine.  But, if I add a few more bites, then get up and move, it proves to be too much and I do not feel my best.

However, when I need to have something before a long brick, but don't want to be bogged down with a huge amount of food sitting in my stomach, I'll have a couple of Clif bars with almond butter, or a fruit smoothie with rice/pea/hemp seed protein powder and some kind of green food powder an hour before heading out on the bike.

i generally eat carrots, mixed nuts (ziploc bag of raw almonds, raw walnut pieces, raw peanuts, and roasted cashews), an apple and some other fruit (usually rotating among clementines, plums, or whatever else is easy to eat) while at work.  these "snacks" double as my lunch, which I munch on starting at around lunch time and through the afternoon.

I like almonds and take it every day.We reduced our consumption of carbohydrates (all that pasta) because i was not well with this. We eat lots of vegies but our protein consumption has soared. No more shakes or anything.

Almonds are the bomb-raw and unsalted. HB eggs are great too. Also, whole wheat toast/bagel with natural peanut butter (the kind you make yourself at a natural food store).

raw...as in not roasted?

and...now i want a bagel w/pb. *mmm*

Yep....they're awesome. Fresh ones are slightly chewy and don't have that harsh almond taste to them. Great fat and protein!

I love bagels!

Since I tend to stay pescatarian but more towards vegetarian, I eat all the time.  Bananas are my go to but get bored with apples pretty quickly.  Other seasonal fruit is nice too.

Weekends my eating schedule gets messed up from the week so I'll take some premade steel cut oatmeal and add some fruit and take it with me if I know I can heat it up.  Otherwise it may be a clif bar or some fruit.
