I hope the hot and heavy rumors come true! What a catch for THE Ohio State University! Now, if we just pull off the upset and beat the team up north this Saturday! GO BUCKS!

Can he make the spread work with the athletes at OSU?  I know that Rich Rod had a hard time trying to make the transition at UM and got ran after 3 years.

I realize that Meyer is considered to be a better coach than Rich Rod, and that Rodriguez had other issues, but the concept is the same.  Trying to institute a spread offense at a school that has not had history with that system and likely does not have the athletes to run it effectively can sometimes make the transition longer and more painful.

Will the fact that OSU be sanctioned by the NCAA, along with the goodwill that Meyer has based on his record at Florida, provide him with enough time to the get the athletes necessary to have the system excel?  And can this system excel in a league that has historically been a smash-mouth football league?

The way things have changed in the last year, you never know. 365 days ago Tressel, Paterno and Rich Rod were all coaching in the Big 10.

True. I'd take Tressel. He was a great coach. Obviously not heavy-handed enough but a great football mind nonetheless.

And a snazzy dresser. He rocks the sweater vest.

The other 2 I can do without. Good riddance; may Arizona reap what it sews.

As a mostly lifelong Florida fan, up until they denied me and I ended up a gamecock, you can have him, I guess his need to be with family and/or his health issues have been resolved...

Funny article on it from a satire site on SEC football

Something funny I saw on the ESPN networks while at lunch today...

(In case it's hard to read, it's ESPN & ESPN2; ESPN has a banner that indicates "Urban Meyer agrees to 7-year/$40M contract.../ESPN2 says "Urban Meyer denies report he has been offered Ohio State coaching job".  Classic ESPN!)

There are a couple of reports circulating. The first is out of respect to Fickell and the OSU v (that team up north) game they will wait until early next week to announce. Some are also saying it is not as much a done deal as it is being reported. Meyer may wait to hear what NCAA sanctions are coming. At least it gives the Columbus media something to report.

As a Michigan fan I think they made a mistake to fire Rich Rod.  As you point out, changing a system completely takes a lot of time and I don't think they gave Rich Rod enough time.  Do i think he did a stellar job?  NO!!!!  He spent all of time recruiting on the offensive side of the ball and the defense was PUTRID!

Hoke is doing a great job, particularly with the defense, so I don't want to knock him down.  I am just saying he inherited a pretty incredible offense.

For Meyer?  No!  OSU will not allow him enough time to take the current offense and change it to a spread.  Winning seems to be the all important, IMMEDIATE requirement for programs such as Michigan and OSU (and many others) and I think that is to the detriment of the kids and society in general, but that is another thread.

Urban Meyer was able to guide Bowling Green to success, push Utah to the top and the obvious success he had in Florida! The spread offense he uses is not as gimmicky as RichRod's! With the talent he can recruit, OSU will be back in the top 5 with-in 2 years! And of course the win streak against the team up north, will continue! That senior class just doesn't know how to beat the buckeyes!

Pelini was a DB at THE Ohio State University. He and Meyer grew up in northeast Ohio. Between that area and western Pa., there is quite a list of football talent (both players and coaches).

Let's play the game and see what happens. It ain't a rivalry if one team dominates. GO BUCKS!!!!! Do you realize Facebook hadn't even started the last time the team uo north beat THE Ohio State University?

This may very well be true but the record, before today's game, was 57-44-6.  And the record was to "that team up north."

Also, I agree.  If one team dominated every year it wouldn't be a rivalry (it would be incredibly boring).  It would be another WU/CD game similar to the ones both OSU and Michigan use at the beginning of the season.

Keep yer mitts out of Western PA please! Us farm raised boys throwing 50lb sacks of grain from our pre-teen years on make great football stock. Oh, but Pryor? We'll give you a free pass on that one

The last time Ohio State introduced a new coach, it was at a high-profile basketball game. That was Tressel.

Tomorrow night, the Buckeyes play Duke in hoops. You do the math.

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2011/if-urban-meyer-goes-to-ohio-state/

In the sake of full disclosure I'm a Seminole. I HATE Meyer.  I think he's a scum bag.  I can't understand how any UF fan can stand the guy.

Meyer left UF after Tebow graduated and then after having his head handed to him in the final game by the 'Noles.  He left because he wanted to spend more time with his family, one daughter who plays college volley ball at FGCU in Ft. Myers Fla.

The guy then promptly takes a job as an ESPN analyst and goes all over the country for their Year of the QB interviews, interviewing QB's and OC's.  And then does studio work all season long.

Then less than a year after he left to "spend more time with his family" he takes a job with OSU.

He's a dirt bag.  I hope you like him OSU because you'll only have him about 5 years max, then he will jump ship, leaving you and all those kids he recruited sitting holding the bag. ( he was at Utah 3 years [I think] and UF 5 years [I think])  He's a rat that will jump ship just as soon as it gets tough or a sweeter deal comes along.

He's a low life.  I think Spurrier is a Saint compared to Meyer. (And that says a lot coming from a 'Nole)

Props to the athletic department. Luke Fickel will remain on the coaching staff. Great move IMO. The underclassmen know and respect him.

I like this situation.
