Subject: What other good races are within driving distance from Phx?
Hi All!
I'm trying to hit the Tempe/AZ circuit the next year or two, but would like to swim in other places other than TTL. Not sure if I want to battle any altitude changes yet (Mountainman or Deuces) since I get EXTREME leg cramps when I travel to altitude (happens every year when we go to Colorado). What about San Diego or other areas in Cali? I am hoping to do Oceanside in 2013 since I missed the signup for it this year, but would like to focus on HIM. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I loved Silverman.  I am waiting patiently to find out if they are bringing it back in 2012 (it got replaced with some type of championship this year).  You might check out some of the other Vegas area races.  They are hilly though so be aware of that.

Dueces is a really good race - I had so much fun last year and Trisports puts on an amazing event. The raffle rocks and although it is at altitude I can't get over the smell of the trees up there - simply awesome.  There is always the Desert Classic Duathlon, Amica 19.7 Sprint, and there is a great tri series down in Tucson.   The tri series is in the pool but still a great way to track your progress as each race uses the same course and there are 4 of them next year.

Check out http://bbsctri.com/kokopelli  The swim is in the same lake as IM St. George.  It's about 2 hours outside Vegas.  A little longer drive than San Diego but worth it.  That's September.  They put on anther in Boulder City near Vegas (Pumpkin Man) in October.  http://bbsctri.com/pumpkinman

This weekend is the first HITS event in Palm Springs.

http://www.hitstriathlonseries.com/palm-springs-ca-2012/

Sprint, Olympic, and 1/2 and full iron distance.  Also they have a free one they call an open that is basically a super sprint that is free so people can get their feet wet, so to speak, and give triathlon a try.  VALDORA will be there.  More than 900 people are signed up.

Come to think of it, there is a couple summer races in Cal. that we enjoy.  One is the Ventura tri and another is Strawberry Fields in Oxanard (sp?).

Can't miss with any of these.

Totally agree with looking into BBSC events.  I have done Pumpkinman twice (October) and Rage (April) once, in Lake Mead, as well as Kokopelli (September) in St. George.  They run great events, they aren't too far away, and it is a nice change of pace from the Tempe courses.

yeah- dueces is great.

I did this one:  Sea Level.  Very well run- and since it's new, no problem getting into it.  Great course- (as in pretty, not easy)

Thank you ALL for some great suggestions! I have heard great things about Pumpkinman, will have to consider it!
It would be nice to experience some other courses without having to ship my bike somewhere!

@Valdora...tell Kendra I say hi!

Thanks for the info!
