Subject: 130th Ironman

I don't remember which thread it was I read last week, but somewhere there was posting about a guy who claimed he had done some crazy number of ironman races at the IMAZ dinner... apparently its possible. from the ironman live blog today at IMCOZ:

"John Wragg, the Canadian who is competing in his 130th Ironman today, is out on the run course. He was hit by a car a few years ago that required hip surgery - a replaced hip, no less - so he now needs to walk the marathon when he does an Ironman. He's got about 30 km of walking still to go, but has six hours to do it, so he should get number 130 out of the way today. His girlfriend, Elizabeth Model, is competing in her 30th Ironman today. She's a little ahead of John at this point."

130. thats absolutely outstanding.

130 x roughly $600 a piece = $78,000. That's more impressive than actually doing 130 IMHO.

That's just the entry fee. The actual cost of an IM runs in the thousands when you add everything up. However, I am sure he has gotten pretty efficient in his prep/routine.

Sounds like the same guy that was at IMFL earlier this month who was doing his 127th or 128th IM. Perhaps he did FL, AZ and COZ this month.

We did the math as well at the athletes dinner estimating the cost to do all those IMs.

Actually, at max one.  what I read said you had to have done 12 and never been to Kona.  That would make it a one time win.

I'm wondering if WTC is giving this guy a volume discount though.

I am not 100% sure of this fact, but I THINK this is the same guy that has done every Ironman on the planet at least once.  They were talking about him at IMC this year.  If it isn't this guy, then there is another guy that has done them all.  Pretty impressive!

I wonder what he does for a living and how he can take that much time off to compete in all these races.
