Total Time = 1h 53m 25s
Overall Rank = 146/322
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 18/39
Pre-race routine:

Watched some of the IMAZ DVD. Ate 2 bananas.
Event warmup:

Stretched upper body before the swim. Swam a few fists when I entered the water and then moved over to the start area and sat in sweet spot until the start.
Swim
  • 31m 10s
  • 1000 meters
  • 03m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swam pretty straight going out, but on the way back in I kept circling towards the left which was the wrong side of the lake.
What would you do differently?:

Need to keep practicing in open water and learn how to sight better. Working on stroke and breathing laterally too.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

Change went well, only trouble that I had was putting my shirt on, but it was really not much of a time loser, maybe 10 seconds or so. Bike shoes went on fast!

Estimated time for T1 (took it out of the bike time - bike computer was about 50 minutes and was actually 18.6 miles)
What would you do differently?:

Try to put the shirt on faster.
Bike
  • 50m
  • 18.6 miles
  • 22.32 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Racked my bike a few spots down. There was another burgundy towel that threw me off. Shoes went off and on fast.
What would you do differently?:

Rack my bike by my towel.
Run
  • 28m 19s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off the first mile slow, got a well needed drink at the first mile marker. Problem was they handed gatorade to me. I turned around and went back for water. May have cost me 15-20 seconds.

Passed people the entire way.

After the first mile, I started running much faster. I felt good and finished strong, passing a guy at the very end with my kick.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure to grab water and not gatorade. Gatorade in races makes me feel like I am going to throw up.
Post race
Warm down:

Banana, water, and walked out to where Steve was and jogged in with him for about 1/2 mile.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim!

Event comments:

Won a Zoot wetsuit in the drawing.

Congrats on the wetsuit!  That is awesome!

You know, aztriclub.com practices open water up at canyon lake every thursday if you were interested.

I'm mad I didn't see/hear you as I went buy - that downhill was the most fun of the race and each time I hit it I went down on my aerobars to see how fast I could go!  We definitely need to find a way to meet up for tempe international!

Great race all around!  Your swimming will get faster and the rest is already in great shape!

I actually went and swam with the AZ Tri Club guys last Thursday. I am going to try to get my supervisor to continue to let me work a 1/2 extra each day so I can leave work early each Thursday to swim the Canyon lake swims.

When I yelled and clapped for you on the downhill, the guy I was passing thought I was cheering him on... hee hee

That hill was fun, same with the one coming off center parkway. My top speed was 31.8mph!
