Avg household income for triathletes is well over the $100k mark I beileve...many more that have endless bank and them spending $9k on a bike is no big deal! Any hobby can be a black hole for spending $$.

Good God.. this thread is still going.

You can't understand $9K on a bike... while 90% of the world can't comprehend spending money on a "hobby". Race entry fees for you is half a years wages to half the world. What's the point?

southwestmba - 2011-12-07 7:42 PM I think the only real question here is is it a violation to put a bike rack holding a $9K bike on an $85,000 Porsche?

I dunno.....but I did witness a guy put his tri bike on the trunk mounted bike rack of his Bentley recently.  No more than 24 hours later I saw the same guy driving the same Bentley with the trunk mounted bike rack pulling into REI in San Francisco.

I just bought diamond wheels. They glisten so much in the sun that it blinds my competitors.I also have on the back of my bike a small seat for my mini giraffe...

I might need a mini giraffe for my next pet. How long do they live?

How much are you supposed to spend on an engagement ring?

I think it is the same guideline for bikes.

It depends. If the giraffe sits in a carbon fiber seat he can live for 4 years.

FELTGood - 2011-12-07 11:47 AM Why would someone buy a 90k Porsche when they could get a 15k hyundai and still get from point a to b?For the girls man! ( or Boys for you ladies out there). That my friend is why we buy the swag.

Yup...you can trace ANYTHING a guy does back to the simple desire to attract chicks....and I do mean anything.

Or... to exercise his newfound freedom after getting out of a relationship.

The money for my bike was much better for my health than what I used to spend on her

I just bought a P2 for my 14 year old son for Christmas.  He's a good kid, and I'm happy to be able to support his dream of college athletics.  I also bought him a set of race wheels at $1000.  I consider it money in the bank as he trains...whether it gets him his college dream or just keeps him out of trouble through the next few years.  How much you spend on the things you enjoy is pointless......because you can't really put a true price on it's worth.

I drive a 20 year old pickup truck that bluebooks for 1200.00.  When I'm heading down the road with my son for a race we will have over $10,000 on the bumper.

Priorities.

Life is good!

I will pile on a bit.  I find it 'funny' when people question how much one spends on a bike.  I question why they would spend so much on college for their kids.  Why waste that money when they can provide it themselves?  (Note:  I paid all of my own college expenses)

Oh...is it because it makes you feel good?  That's the SAME reason one buys an expensive bike (add in anything from house, car, hot tub, etc).

If I had kids, not one dime would go into a college fund.  Why?  Because there is not need and I would rather spend the money on other things.  It truly is what one wants to do with their cash.  I've seen bikes go on cars and triple the value of the car.  The car is not the focus...it's the bike.
