Want to get this thread started.

I will be using this race as my half before attempting my first IM (IMNYC).  Anyone else racing?

I am thinking about this one but waiting to see how some of their other events go first. Not to many people did the half or full at their first event weekend in Palm Springs.

Interesting...hadn't thought about how turnout would be. But, I'm definitely considering this as my half for IMNYC.

Was checking this thread to see if anyone had ideas for motels anywhere. I'm still planning on the Half.

I am planning on registering for the half. It would be my first one. Any news on number of people registered?

I have no idea on how many people are registered. I'd like to know myself.

But, I checked out the course when I was up there a couple weeks ago. Let's just say, it's very hilly. The bike course had some nice straight-aways where you can tuck and go, but the run...seemed like one huge hill heading out, then back up it on the way back.

Not much activity about this race. Anyone else sign up in the meanwhile??

I'm in for the Half. Gonna be good training for IMNYC.

I have signed up for the full. My training has dropped due to injuries so it is not going to be a pretty sight when I hopefully stumble over the finish-line before midnight. The course looks very scenic but when I google-earth the lake I have problems fitting in the swim course with 2 laps. Anyone have any idea on what water temperatures to expect?

Hello Everyone,

I am registered for the half and will be camping on site.  I don't anticipate a great result, this is only my second tri, with my first being a sprint. I am doing the 140.6 B2B in October and this was the only accessable half that fit into my schedule before that race.  I'm still in the base phase of my training, and plan on using this race as a trial/learning experience.

I have never been to the area but the course does look a bit hilly near the end of both bike and run. That should make things interesting for me, as I stink on hills!

Looking forward to the race and giving a HITS event a try.

Cheers!

Tom

You will love beach2battleship. Did it last year as my first and had a wonderful time. Good luck at hunter mountain. I was thinking about doing that one but it did not fit with my schedule. Getting to close to the end of the school year as I am a teacher so did not think I could fit in the right kind of training.

Anyone have a guess as to how many are racing? I saw theres only one wave for the Half, so I'm guessing they aren't expecting much. Either way I'm pretty excited

suefesta - Thanks for the B2B comments. I am really looking forward to it! I am staying at the Hilton (host hotel) and I will have a spectator with me. Any tips you can share for either the race, or things to do in the area for a spectator?  I read that the course has changed a bit from previous years to have T2 and the finish near the convention center, so I wonder how this will affect the high opinions of this race.

Cheers!

Hilly? Ummmm...the run has only 2 hills - one is about 2 miles long, and the other about a mile. And 2600' of climbing on the bike. So, yeah, treat it as a solid workout.

And from what I have seen in previous HITS race results, there have been ~50 entrants in the half.

Ok, just looking at the bike course profile. I knew it was hilly, but I'm seeing a 1.6mile climb at 5.1% average grade, with a max pushing 15%. Anyone know the course well enough to comment on that?

Just in case anyone is reading this thread, and it seems rather unlikely...
The course does not have a 15% grade. maxes out at 8%.

Just entered this...I'm OK with 8%...15% might be a bit too steep with a 23-11 on the back.

Looking forward to this 0 now just have to find some cheap accomodation that doesn't inolve a tent

Wow, was not expecting that kind of turn out for the HIM, thats awesome. Forecast used to be really nice for the weekend, but now it looks like possible storms, lets hope they hold off for us! What is everyone planning on wearing for the bike? I'm guessing its still going to be chilly from 730-1100am. Its too bad we can't ditch clothes on the course, as I'm sure a jacket would be nice for the early descents, but may be too much for the late climbs.

Looks like about 30% chance of rain when we'll be setting off on bikes and around 55-60F - I'm not wearing any jacket, sleeves etc, just a tri-top.

I reckon it will soon warm up and forecast is for sun around 9am...

Ouch!  That was a hard one...

Thought the bike was OK, apart from the last 12 miles or so, but that run....hated every minute of it.  Was fine until mile 7 - either that was a long mile or I just blew up completely, and struggled after that.

Well organised and had a really good vibe - lots of support at the run aid stations, only used 1 bike aid station which was fine.

Beautiful scenery up there - think I'll be back next year and I hope the HITS series can kick on from here...

Tough course for sure! My goal was to practice IMLP pacing, which I did until early in the run when my competitiveness took over and I ran a hard pace with another racer before leaving him after we came back into the park. Loved the course though, I will definitely try to be back for next season!
