In a similar vein, do you remember if they have an array of different flavors in the Hammer gels or are there just a few they use. I use Hammer gels in workouts but a couple flavors are really bad and I know on a lot of races they use the least popular flavors due to getting a better deal. Just curious.

2moremiles - That's really interesting... did you see Infinit's post today that show's this article called "Curvilinear Dose-Response Relationship of Carbohydrate (0-120 g*h-1) and Performance"

Shows peak performance comes at 78g CHO (carbohydrate) with diminishing returns after that.  (If I read the abstract correctly).

That's what I figured.  Especially given that I've read other studies that place that number between 60 and 90, so it fits.   Keep in mind this study was based on a cycling test, not running.  I would assume that number would be lower.

What's everyone's thoughts on run training with doing two (2) - 2 hour runs versus one (1) - 3 hour run each week over these next few weeks.  Just wondering which would give me a better output

and FWIW- this isn't my first Ironman

Dood, I'm hip to the taper.

Did a 15 mile run before work this morning, and have a +6 hour ride this weekend and the same for next weekend......but then, it is all about the taper.

I don't have any code info, but $475 for a full IM 4 weeks before the event is a fantastic price.  And for a top-notch event, it doesn't get much better.  Planning as far in advance as possible for triathlons often can save lots of money over the course of one season.

I'll take your word for it on the price, I agree it seems very reasonable but if there's a spot for a discount code might as well see if there's a code to put in there  : )  Just started swimming and biking when my knee got messed up training for Boston this spring and it turns out I  really like triathlons and do well in them.  I should have started years ago.  It seems crazy to go from not even owning a bike to doing an Ironman distance event in 6 months, but I've been doing marathons and ultras for a long time and I know I'm ready to give it a go.  I'll see if any codes pop up and if not go ahead and register and look for you there!

Hey all... hope your training is going well.  I did this one last year (jammed it in after a mechanical stopped me in IMWI), and weather aside, really enjoyed it.  Having it a week earlier, and with a new (and better run course) should make it even better.  The bridges made it really rough, especially in the cold, so I think this will be a great improvement.  The only other thing I would say is that you should be mentally prepared for the wind on the bike.  Somehow, and I still don't know exactly how, it was either cross or in my face for all but 10 or 15 miles.  It can be a real grind on you, especially at mile 75 or so.  What saved me was having a light jacket (was on all day, for the most part) and full gloves that I bought on the drive from the airport.  

Aside from that, the volunteers and organization were awesome, the swim was truly unique (I think I did a 1:02 after a 1:35 or so at WI a month and a half before), and I got IM distance number one off my back.  With the run course change, I may end up doing it again in the near future.  Good luck to all!

One thing that's different from years past is the Athlete Dinner is on Friday instead of Thursday..

Also, the Sunday brunch is open to both full and half racers but only has space for 500 people. If you were planning on attending, might be worth buying the ticket in advance.

I'm so excited, just over 3 weeks to go.  Training couldn't be going any better (knock on wood) and my biggest concern today is whether I want to wear the same thing all day, or change in T1.  I'm thinking change so I'm not freezing for half the bike course.  Pretty sure it's not going to be hot by then and being cold always puts me in a bad mood.  Not how I want to start the day.  Anyone else planning on a full change?

I THINK I'm going to change.  I have decided to go with the sleeveless wetsuit vs my full sleeve as I am just feeling too tight in the full the last few races.  So I obviously won't be wearing my bike top under the sleeveless suit!  I figure the extra minute isn't cost to cost me that much.  The only pain is changing into dry clothes when you're wet. 

And I totally agree about the cold!

Just read your blog.  Sorry to hear about the break, but if the biking works, you should be fine!!  You still have time for 2 long rides prior to tapering.
