I am in the market to buy a trainer for the winter so I can improve my bike fitness. I plan on riding 2-4hrs a week during the off season. I found 2 trainers on craigslist that are going from $50-$100. Does anyone know about the Blackburn trackstand magnetic trainer ($90) or the Blackburn trackstand fluid trainer (all offers so I was thinking $50) as they are my two options. I couldnt find too many reviews online but would like to be a little better informed prior to making a purchase. I just want to make sure they are compatible with my bike (Trek 1.1 road bike) and I wont need to buy any special equipment to use them (I know that I need a diferent rear skewer to ride on a cycle ops trainer than the one on my bike). Thanks for the help.

My Blackburn Magnetic trainer lasted less than one season... I would look for a used CycleOps Fluid or a Kurt Road Machine... yes, then will be a bit more expensive, but they last forever.

I hated my blackburn mag. Loud, not much resistance, etc. I gave it away and switched to an inexpensive Nashbar magnetic trainer, which I have had for years now, and it has been much better.

I would also tell you to stay away from the Blackburn.  Mine lasted for about a season and was so loud that even though it was in the basement, it could be heard 2 floors up.

Keep looking and pay a little more (or find one on CL) for one that will last, fit your needs, and be quiet!

I have a blackburn trakstand, it's over 10 years old. I barely used it when I bought it, and it has sat in the garage, so mine may not be the best specimen. I've never had my bike on any other trainer to compare. I don't have multiples of things that cost hundreds of dollars, so I wish I could be more help. By reading this thread, it sounds like I should expect mine to explode by Valentine's Day now that I actually use it. So it sounds like you should pass if they're in that big of a hurry to unload.

But, I can say that it holds my bike, and I get a workout. Without a power meter, not sure what else I am missing out on here.

I like my blackburn trackstand mag trainer a lot.

Not as nice as my tru trainer rollers but I'd still recommend it for the money.

I have a Blackburn magnetic and kinda wish I would have bought a Cycle Ops.
I've had my bike on both and the Cycle Ops is 10x easier to mount/dismount.

I have a Blackburn Tech Fluid.  It is working fairly well for me so far.

I haven't really used any other, but it seems to be less of a pain than my wives magnetic trainer.

I've had a Blackburn fluid trainer for the past 5-6 years. Still runs good but it's VERY loud. But I discovered that the mounts (I think they're called that) are causing damage to my Cervelo P2. The drive side mount rubs on the derailleur and also has warn most of the paint away from around the dropout But my Madone seems to be ok so I'm using that for now

I've had the Blackburn fluid for a few years and its held up fine, probably because it doesn't get much use.  It is loud, and as lisac957  said, it is not the easiest trainer to mount/dismount the bike on.  I tell myself I'd use a better trainer more often...
