Ohhhhh, so now there's more hills, fiesty dogs and what's this I hear about doing 7:30 miles instead of the original 8:15  pace?  Actually these are ideal conditions for rock star Ultra running girls aren't they.  What say you Lisa, you and Amber up for a little hilly training mixed in with some speed work (running from the dogs) Wink

No, no, no, Reece.  You don't run from the dogs.  That only encourages them.  You run at the dogs to get them to back down.

Like what I do to my kids to get them to behave.  Cool

There will be no 7:30 pace. I haven't run over 10 miles but one time since the thanksgiving day HM I did. 8-8:15 should provide a nice medium of speed and enjoying the day.

My swim coach tried to kill me this morning, and said he will do so again on Wednesday, so anything under 8:00/mile will be a miracle.

It looks like the weather gods have decided to make a change for Saturday. We are now looking at 42 for a high. Going to make dressing for this one a bit tricky.

joncolbybohnsack - 2012-01-15 3:45 PM Reece confirmed his registration. Lisa you are next. 13 miles is a rest day to an ultra runner.

Haha I can't believe we BOTH thought it was last weekend!
We have a 22 (and 26 for her)-miler scheduled so no racing.

OK I will check back next weekend.

Sounds like you two just need to run the race at your training speed, then run back to your car.  Makes sense to me.

Just saw this announcment on the website:

1-20-2012 IMPORTANT RACE INFO: Due to a funeral at  the Presbyterian Church in Auburn, the finish for this years’ race will be at a different location. This change will insure the least disruption to residents and traffic flow in Auburn. This alteration will make this years’ course approximately 13.25 miles long. After finishing the race, participants are asked to proceed south along Harrison to 9th Street, then west to Auburn Grade School where post-race activities take place. There will now be some parking available very near the finish line as well as other locations we’ve utilized in the past. We suggest those using bus transportation from Auburn to arrive early as we have over 500 entrants. Your understanding regarding this necessary change is appreciated.

Jon and I came in at about a 7:50/mile pace, although they added about .15-.25 miles to the distance.  So I think an accurate pace would be more like a 7:45/mile.  Finished 91st overall witha time of 1:43:30.  Adjusted for the extra distance would have been about a 1:42:45 or so.  Jon and I ran together until the last 1/2 mile or so, then I had a little more kick left at the end.  Reece was not far behind.  He kept reminding us the first couple of miles, "8:15 pace!!!!  8:15 pace!!!!"  We kept ignoring him.  :-)

Weather cooperated until the last mile or so when the wind picked up a tad and the humidity rose making it feel much colder.  Damned near got frostbite walking back to the car.

Urish Hill is what people always talk about, but it was NOTHING compared to the sequence of hills going up Indian Hills Road south of 69th street.  Holy crap!  I never thought we would reach the last hilltop.

Had a great time with Reece and Jon!

Photos and results are up:  http://www.seekcrun.com/htmdocs/2012events/01-21-12topeka.html

They are off by 1 place on the times associated with runners.  I ran a 1:43:09, not a 1:43:30.  Must have had a miscount with the bib number strips at the finish line.

Here is the motley crew of Jon, me, and Reece:

Do you need help loading pics Patrick?

That's strange.  The link works fine and I can scroll through those but I see no pictures pasted on the post.  Usually when you upload pictures there's filenames at the bottom of the post ending in .jpg or .bmp etc.  Must be some settnigs I have.
