rbhancock1 - 2012-06-14 12:23 PM Just looked at elevation for Bear Lake -- 5,900+feet, going up to over 7,000.  May pass on it after all.

Hmm, I called the RD and asked about the bike course, maybe he wasn't actually speaking truth, said there was a "little" incline in beginning and end of course, think I'll call back and ask specifics.

Heather, that Tropic one does look tempting but I am having a slow recovery so 2wks wouldn't be good for me, darn but that does look like a nice race.                                                                        For an Oly the River rampage does look tempting, has a downhill swim like Vikingman and I just loved that swim! I'll probably still just end up doing the Echo but will let u know if I switch.

Patsy -- I was referring more to the starting elevation of the race, rather than the climb on the bike (which I still think there's a bit of).  I show Bear Lake situated at 5,900 feet above sea level . . .

I've been told that in September there is a long distance triathlon  http://www.racecenter.com/blackdiamond/

Also coming up in July in Chelan. ChelanMan but the bike is supposed to be pretty brutal.

With Boise done I am also doing the Bear Lake Brawl since it's only an hour from where I live.  They added the Full this year which I thought was kind of cool.  (Not that I'm doing it, but it is nice to have the option for the future since there aren't many options around here for that distance.  I was under the impression that the bike course went around the lake rather than out to Woodruff but from the course map that doesn't look like that's the case.

The pain and disappointment of Boise is dissipating.  I may well be in for Bear Lake.  Glad to hear others are coming, too.

Glad to hear it, I'm still on board. My partner seems to think it won't be too bad, if you were prepared for the Boise, you should be fine for BLB too from what he says.

I have no idea though how the altitued will mess with training, I'm  hoping I can be one of those that's not affected.Cool

*that was odd the post didn't even appear :/ *
as I was saying...

There's not a ton of elevation difference b/t Echo Tri and Bear Lake, so perhaps if you're still planning on Echo in July that could be a good test for Bear Lake in September.

Just a thought

Thanks, geauxtri.  Might you be in for Bear Lake, too? PatsyID seems a bit feisty, and I don't think I can handle dealing with her all by myself.  ;-)

Woke up this morning with delayed soreness in both achilles.  Hated life and triathlon.  Yelled at the dog.  Worked some, then went for a pool swim, forcing myself to breathe bilaterally.

Feeling better now.  Achilles have settled down.  Love triathlon and the dog.

Ha-ha, feisty is fun, you'll have a blast, hope we all get to meet up!

Ok, now, since you're complaining about achilles I must pass on valuable info. Look into Chi Running, my partner tried getting me to do it for months and months and I just kind of brushed off the suggestions, STUPID. I finally picked up the book and it saved my achilles, it's a totally different way to run, just give it a read and see if you find any benefit. I still have to really think about it and I fail sometimes but when I work the Chi I have no achilles issues. I do train slower with it but I can live with that b/c at least I can train so there's that and eventually I'll get better and faster, it just takes time, concentration and consistency. You should give it a read and see what you think.
