Here's the quiz they talked about in the "Can't Find LA" thread.

I just got 20/20 on that quiz.

I'm deeply disturbed that I didn't see any 100%'s in the name your that country section.

I scored 19-20 - I missed the second question - I thought I read that Islam was the largest religious group - maybe it's the fastest growing religion. Otherwise I'm sadden that people just don't know their geography. i had a 7th grade teracher who made us do maps every period of the region we were studying - countries, cities, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes etc... I loved it. It also gave my father and I something to do together. he'd have me do everything I could then the night before it was due, he would find what i missed and in the morning over breakfast he'd clue me into the area so i still had to "find" it on my own. I feel sorry that today's kids are just being taught to pass states tests. Schools here in Texas readily admit they teach solely for their kids to pass the TAKS test.

That is stupidly easy. Everyone who took it should have gotten at least 18/20 without any problem whatsoever.

I got 20/20 on the quiz.  I thought the geography section was easier than the first part.  I was pretty much guessing on the population of the US - I had a rough idea and ended up picking the right option.  I can see getting a few of the questions wrong, though.

I don't know what's more disturbing.  How far we lag behind other countries, or that on at least some of the geography questions only 2 of the four choices were on the right continent and people still got the questions wrong 75%+ of the time.

Questions that blew my mind the most that people missed:

Who are the moronic ten percent of folks in France who didn't know who endorsed the Euro.

Who are the 10% wastes of carbon in the US that couldn't find the US on a world map?!?!  C'mon even 97% of Mexicans can find Mexico on a map.  And 97% of Italians could find Italy (although 20% of Great Britain types couldn't), at least we have an ocean seperating us as our excuse.

19/20. I didn't know what the population of the US was.

Sweden scored pretty well on the quiz. And I found it a bit crazy that only 89% of the Americans surveyed could identify the US on the map.

I was surprised that a lot of people know where the pacific ocean is. I guess we have the OC to thank for that!!!

20/20... But wow... I am kinda amazed at how poorly some countries did on some of the questions.  Surely people are not this dumb...  Sweden did quite well though.

20/20   but pretty disturbing that the country most involved in the war (in the middle east) was unable to identify where they were fighting!!!

19/20. Crap. I second guessed my first choice for a question and got it wrong. Never second guess. Anyway,  how could you not do well on that?!

19/20 I too thought the US population was higher then what it was.

anyway, question 10 has more then one correct answer. They failed to give information about map projection and scale. so neener neener neener

I was supprised by te results really. It seems that the US did marginally poor on most questions, but on average did alright. Especially compared to a lot of countries that would do really well on some and tank others. Seemed our results were better rounded. I did have a grip with the last few questions. Half of those number were so small I couldn't read them and we kind of hard to figure out where they were pointing.

If you answer "I don't know" to all the questions, don't you get a score of 100%?  You didn't get any wrong answers.

I fudged up the last question. I did not know Where Argentina was. At least I had the right continent though. All the other questions were way too easy though.

I hit 20/20. I will admit that were it not for the multipe choice aspect of it, I might have missed where Sweden is ( I can't remember which is Finland, which is Norway, and which is Sweden)

19/20, I thought Islam was the religion with the most followers.

What I found interesting was that they made the choices for countries easier by not providing an adjacent country as one of the choices. For example, Norway wasn't a choice when you had to find Sweden and Pakistan wasn't a choice when you had to find Afghanistan.

I think many more people would have had lower scores if the test had been structured like that.

18 of 20.  Missed the first two.  Thought there where a lot more people in the U.S. and forgot that Islam is the fastest growing, not the largest.

good catch. I noticed that on a few of them too. Maybe that test is more indicative of basic reasoning skills then of actual geographic knowledge.

20/20

I had taken this survery before and read about the results when they first came out in 2002. It's really really scary that young United States Citizens cannot identify places outside of their little bubble here. It's so important that our children be taught a different world views. It's so rare to even come across geography classes in small high schools.

Yeah, the map questions were way too easy, all you had to know was the region.

The solution to the geography problem is simple.  Everyone needs to play more 'Risk' and they need to keep the game board updated to current events.
