Damn.  Trying to catch up to all these posts. Had the Route 66 Hop Brook Damn XC MTB Race yesterday.  Word of advice, don't install a hard wood floor for your sister,  the day before a race.  Anyway. no one mentioned this course was all freaking climbing. Busted my butt to a 6th place finish out of 25ish in my AG. Me and two others battled the entire second lap. We'd change leads here and there, but with 1/4 mile to go, they lost me on the last hill climb.  Quads were on fire.  My boys had a blast as well in the kids race. Both now have matching Specialized HotRocks.

carrie639 - 2012-04-02 9:50 AM Great pics. I have to say whoever did the pics did a better job than most race getting good close ups of a lot of people!

I took all the pictures!  Some were a little off because my fingers were so number I couldn't feel the shutter button anymore.

I really like the concept of taking lots of pictures and then letting people have them for free.

Jeff I would kill myself doing that.  Looks so freaking cool though.

One last thought from this weekend.  I spoke to a lot of triathletes that appreciate the exposure Lance is bringing but are irritated by the way things are changing with him involved.  The security, the special attention, the etc.  For instance the pro bikes were totally walled off from the rest of the field.  There was a smattering of applause for the first wave a pros out of the water and and uproar when lance came out.  The mass exodus of folks moving from one place to another as Lance moved through.  And the escorts he seemed to have, even on the run course while out of the lead, everywhere he went.  I think part of the draw for a lot of athletes is that the pros are pretty much accessible and treated similarly to the rest of the field, and Lance is treated differently even from the pros.

I'm not really sure where I fall on this, but it was pretty cool to see him on the bike.  Dude was a blur.

Wow Scott, thanks for the input on Lance.  I never expected it to be so bad.  Exactly as you and many others have said, this really is one of the very few, if any sports, where you get to compete with the pros, on the same course etc.  It's almost unfortunate that may change.  I think it has many positives with him involved, but to have all that extra going on with security etc, kind of sucks.

I think it is great!

The sport itself is getting alot more attention because Lance is there ... people take it and run with it.  Get over the fact that Lance is the one getting most of the cheers and be happy that there are more fans and he is doing a good thing.  I would understand if people were pissed if he was a crap triathlete getting this kind of attention ... but he is keeping up pretty good so far.  He is doing the work and competing.

I am a Lance lover both with him as an athlete and what he does for the world of Cancer.  There is no way that anything with Lance is anything (in my opinion) but win/win cuz he is helping save lives.

I will get off my soap box.

I'll say this.  I get it.  They don't want him getting mobbed and really who else other than the really high profile guys/gals like Macca/Crowie/Crissy/et al would that apply to.  It's just kind of weird.

I'm still kinda shocked at how big of a mess the mount/dismount line is.  Cindy says they stand there every race for the NASCAR like wrecks that take place.

Love the pics of you and the kids!!!  I would also kill myself, but I don't have the best balance in the world.

Just wondering ... do you get alot of injuries, cuts scraps, worse in those races you do?

Make sure to re-introduce yourselves.  I think the Lance discussion is a good place to start on the new thread.
