I had a fun week. I didn't get as much SBR as I had hoped (so pretty much sticking with my usual m.o. !!) but I did go downhill skiing for the first time. We skied for 3 hours and I was so sore I certainly couldn't have gone for a run the next day! We had a blast and I can't wait to do it again. Too bad it's so expensive.

I'm finding it hard to believe the warmer weather will ever come, even though it's been really warm here this week. It's just teasing us before the next storm. I think that's partly why my try training motivation isn't very high. Racing seasons seems so far away. It's easy to skip a workout when you think that you've got months and months before any events happen. But I know that will bite me in the behind come summer.

Was in the mountains for a girls weekend this weekend! Oh how I love the mountains....Saved my 1hr run for it and it was beautiful!

My self and a friend of mine bought a canoe today off a second hand website for $100. I'm totally looking forward to it, now we can train for open water swimming without worrying so much that a boat will run us over! Also this gives us the opportunity to bring the kids & hubby when we train which is always great to be able to do! Now all we need is the ice to go away!! I can't wait!

Well, I finally got my first double digit long run in this weekend and it felt pretty good.  Was sick last week so no spinning, hoping to get back in a regular routine this week and possibly get out and ride on the road if the weather is nice this coming weekend.

QOTW: The bike is my weakest discipline, not because I feel physically weak on it, it's because my level of comfort is very low.  I hate zipping down hills at full speed in fear or crashing, and still need to work on my bike handling skills.  I'm hoping with the short winter we had and lots of warmer weather coming early that I can get out on the bike 2x a week to gain more confidence.

Glad you enjoyed the skiing!  I remember the first time I went a couple of years and how sore I was the next day.  I tried to convince myself it was from using different muscles and not all the falling down I did.

I am consistently weak at all three disciplines, but excel at sucking on the run above all others.

Hey guys! Sorry I've been MIA. Just started at the trauma hospital and been getting up at 0400 and going to sleep before 2000. On call tomorrow day/night! *crossed fingers* that I will get to sleep a little bit tomorrow night. It's my first true overnight call. On the plus side I have a post call day on Fri.

Hi everyone!  Hope you all had a good weekend.  Our warm streak of weather has continued so I got in a lot of good running and the first outdoor ride of the year! Even have the start of some tanlines, which never happens in March

Is it normal to go through a phase where you think WTH did I sign up for and can I really do this?  The race I'm worried about isn't until the end of Aug and I'm starting to freak out already.  The run is supposedly brutal- and I'm just worried I will not be fit enough.  I went mountain biking today and was out for an hour and only went 6 miles and the race is 14.  I'm really starting to think I'm insane.  At the same time I feel so much fitter than I did 3 months ago when I started this...  what do you do when you start doubting yourself?

It is completely totally normal. If you didn't have some doubts and worries, you would not be stretching your limits. If your training program is designed for the type of race and the distance, stick with it and trust it and you will do fine. FWIW, I spent last night tossing and turning wondering if I had bitten off more than I can chew with what I have signed up for.

Totally normal, trust your training you will normally train more than needed and feel great for the race. Its after you do it a while that you tend to under-train.

Like others have said this is quite normal, especially if it's your first time doing a certain race and/or distance.  Even after years of racing I still get those feelings.  Just the other day I was thinking about my October marathon and how hard a BQ pace is seeming right now.  Then I got to thinking how much progress I've made in the last two months and that there's still 6 months to go.  Sounds like you're in the same boat.  Feel good about the gains you've made in the last three months and know that if you keep up the good work you'll be good and ready come race day.

Thanks everyone! I feel a lot better hearing I'm not the only one going through this! I did convince a friend who's training for a half marathon to enter a 9k with me in 6 weeks. I think that will be a good short term goal to keep my running focused on. Although I'm going to have to ramp it up! It should also make the 5k in my sprint in June seem so much more do-able. Esp since they are both at the same place.Thank you for re-assuring me!

I'm glad you asked this and also appreciate the responses.  I'm feeling the same way (even a nightmare last night about race day... sharks in the lake?  Talk about totally unrealistic )  I'm sure as we get further into our training the confidence level will increase and most of the fear/worry will fade away.

Hope everyone's training is going well!

My spring race plans have changed. And by changed I mean I now have none. There are two events in May that I typically do - usually one HM and one 10k. However this year I won't be able to do either. So now the run focus is less important and I can focus on triathlon, in case I ever decide to try one again!

My plan for this weekend is to get my LSD run up to 2 hours. I'm thinking I'd like to try to stick there and see if doing that week after week my run might improve. Typically I train up to the HM distance, then fall back and start over. So this new approach would have me stay at near HM readiness through the summer. Maybe I could finally try a marathon in the fall. We'll see.

So for biking and swimming I'm toying with the idea of alternating focus weeks. So one week would be run and bike and one week would be run and swim, and maybe one week would be bike and swim. I find I can get the bike/runs done but I have trouble with time management when I try to get the third discipline in (and as swimming is my least favourite, it seems to be the first to go).

Is this misguided, neutral or a good idea? What do you think?

Hi guys! Sorry I've been MIA. Just finished up general surgery at the level 1 trauma center....being at the hospital at 545 in the morning isn't exactly fun times that is all I can say. I liked it more than I thought I would...but I'm not sad that it is over that is for sure.

Heading off to Victoria for a few days and then down to LA for the race with Neal. Haven't been able to train as much as I would like to...but working with my coach to come up with something sustainable for internal medicine. I'm 1/4 call for the next 2.5 months.........

Hope you all have a good weekend.

oh boy...I can only imagine, i already had one that I woke up Ironman morning and the weathe was crappy so I decided to go back to sleep and not race.....WTH!!!! hahaha

Training went well this month, it was a big month almost double from last month, I can feel the increase, body is more tired and less motivation to get going each day but still getting all my training in!!

I'm so ready for the weather to be great, for the sun to shine and for the days to get longer!! My new bike is so sick of sitting on a trainer and really needs to see the road soon!! I hope they sweep the gravel away soon so I can get out there!

On another note, I did my first time trial on my bike this week, now that I can train using watts on my new trainer. Man those suck!!!! not looking forward to the next but excited to have some zones to train from so I can get maximum training going on!

April is going to be a great month everyone! For us Albertans it's the kick off to the tri season and the first month that you can actually race! So excited!!

One week until my marathon training should start. I need to make a "final" decision if I am going to do this with everything else I have going on.

I say start it, follow it as best you can and reassess in a couple of months.  If you are having a hard time hitting all the workouts and you feel your training is lagging behind then make a decision
