Seattle
Subject: Free Tri Bike

So I got a job opportunity that I just can not pass up; but it's in Seattle, so I will need to be relocating.  Since I am moving across country I figure I don't really need my first tri bike hanging around anymore, so I figured I'd just give it someone who could use it.

It's a 2006 Trek Equinox 7.  56cm.  Everything on it is stock.  It doesn't really have a lot of miles on it, I bought it then shortly later had a shoulder injury which required surgery.  After recovering I ended up buying a newer carbon bike.

The only issue is it is in need of wheels and a rear cassette.  The reason is because one day my sister's bike flew off the bike rack while driving down the highway.  And believe it or not, the only damage to her bike was the back wheel went flying and disappeared on the side of the road, and her front wheel was bent up, otherwise zero damage.  So since I had this extra bike laying around with wheels I wasn't using I gave them to her.

But otherwise it is in good working condition (last time I rode it was about a year and half ago).  It may need a tune-up but nothing else major.

Anyway... the bike is free.  I can get some pictures up if you like.  Anyone can test ride as well, I'll just pull the wheels off one of my other bikes for the test ride.

Here is a link to trek's specs: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2006/archive/equinox7

Also, I have aluminum profile areo bars available.  Also free, I just want to get rid of this stuff so I don't have it cluttering up my apartment.

I live in the Brookhaven area, in the Post Brookhaven apartment complex.

good luck with new job and great gesture of passing on the tri bike. I don't need it but I would like to see people post up why they need it or should have it. instead of just someone getting it.

either way good luck.

Since they changed the HOPE grant, this year I've had to sell off a BUNCH of stuff to pay for school, including my tri bike. This bike will allow me to race next year (if I can afford any races).

Let's keep this thread going... maybe we can start a sort of chain where people pass on their gear.

So we have a tri bike to give away, too. It's a Felt S32, 52, 2008 I believe. It's in really great condition. Would love to send it to a good home where someone really needs it. PM or post....

So awesome to you peeps giving away bikes.  Following the angels that went to Kmart and paid off peoples layaways!  Very cool.

So sorry too that I missed this one!  My daughter has been talking about doing her first tri (she swims and runs but no bike) as well as biking her way around school.  If anyone knows of something out there that is very reasonable please let me know.  She's 5'6".

Thanks and Merry Christmas all!

Lisa, she'll need something in the 52-53cm size range. Keep an eye on craigslist, there are some good deals that pop up on there from time to time.

I got a second aero bar setup with this bike, so I'll be paying forward whichever one I like the least once I get my fit sorted and the bike set up properly.

Hi All I'm a 2nd year cyclist that stumbled into cycling by doing make a wish and others. I haven't put down my bike my wife had got for me. I'm looking to get in to triathlons now but short on cash so if any one has a Tri-Bike just sitting around looking for a good home I promise you it would be loved a whole lot by me and when I'm done and can afford to upgrade I will pass it on to another just starting out. Thank you so much.

I wish you the best of luck on that; tri-bikes tend to run in the five digit range, on the low wend, and are something people never give away but are happy to take if someone does so.

For triathlons, a decent road bike will be all you need to get into the cycling end of the spectrum, which you should already have.. There isn't a need to spend money on a tri-bike this soon.

EDIT: Ok, maybe it's not all in the 10k range as I initially thought, but it's still a massive expense to get into a field you've never touched before. As I said, most road bikes will be sufficient for your needs. I'm sure plenty here have ridden Ironman's on their road bikes.

Hey Brian after looking into it a bit I have found a road bike in my budget that is a big upgrade to what i have now. Yes its a road bike that needs a couple tweaks. Thanks for your info. Looking forward to my first day on it at this point. I have a good friend that does triathlons and he has been doing them for over 15 years and he said the same thing to me. He told me to ride what is comfortable to me so that is what I'm going to do.
