Pre-race routine:

Coffee and Cliff Bar; A few sips of Gatorade
Event warmup:

Some jogging and stretching
Swim
  • 03m
  • 150 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

I must have passed 8 people in 150 yards and i suck at swimming. Apparently other people suck more. This is an estimated time because the transition is included in the online splits.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, felt strong. But I need to start training for real swims.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

T1 was run to Bike. No splits given. So this is a guess.
Bike
  • 36m 15s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 17.38 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought this was going to be a pancake flat course it wasnt, which screwed me up mentally. Not that it was a hard course, but . . . Anyway I just couldn't seem to get my pace up. I just felt slow.
What would you do differently?:

As usual, train more.
Transition 2
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

T2 was bike to swim. Time is estimated.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe leave the socks off, but i'm afraid of getting blisters.
Run
  • 22m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Well this just sucked. I haven't been able to run because of an injury to my ribs. my last two 5K tris were under 7 min miles ave. My first mile was a solid 6:53 and then I fell apart. Average about 7:30, a big drop. Also my "good" achilles started to flare up for the second half of the race. BLAH!
What would you do differently?:

Just be healed up.
Post race
Warm down:

jog around a little. Hurry back to see wife finish 1/2 marathon in Redlands.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury to ribs, and inability to train from injury. Problems with achilles. Overall undertraining as usual.

Event comments:

Well organized moderately easy sprint tri. For good cause, helps disabled athletes. Also ran this last year, much better organized. There were some timing problems which they fixed a few days after the race.
