Loved seeing all the 2011 highs & lows, now it's time to look ahead and talk about the coming year.

I like this thread! It's been so quite out there on the road. I am all alone. Did my 42.5 mile bike today. Felt lonely......

I am training for my first HIM (signed up for marquee half...not sure if I will be ready in April. Maybe Flagstaff half, and signed up for Soma for Oct.) and will do small races in between if money allows. Budget will be tight for 2012 races.

Volunteering for Ford IM and then will sign up for 2013 Ford Ironman.

My goals are to get faster on the bike and have a great race at IM Oceanside. After that, it'll be a few events for fun and then decide whether I'm up for doing IMAZ again in 2013.

My goal for this year was to graduate to full distance Olys. But a torn rotator cuff and a SLAP tear (no surprise if you've seen me swim) may end up changing my plans. I meet with an orthopedic surgeon next week. I hear the SLAP tear surgery has a long recovery, maybe 6 months.

If anybody has experience with the recovery time for this type of surgery I'd be very interested in hearing about it.

In any event, I'm still hopefull to squeeze out an Oly distance this year even if it's at the Blue Water Resort Tri in November. :D

The good news is that after my shoulder heals I can actually learn how to swim CORRECTLY. All part of my cunning plan to finish the 2014 IMAZ.

Modest goals for this year....

Want to get back into HIM shape for Rev3 knoxville in May, which will include a lot of focus on bringing run fitness back in the early months of the year.  Swimming-wise, I need to get my comfort in the water back for my first ocean swim in Malibu.  Following that, I want to have a decent swim in the HITS Havasu tri in November to make up for a disastrous swim I had there in '09.

2012 - where to start?  After a fun-filled, memorable 2011, my addiction has gotten even worse, and I am in full-speed-ahead sickness mode (2 Oly, 3 HIM, 1IM, 3 Half Mary, 5 Mary).  So here is what I have planned for 2012:

Run Races:

  • PF Chang's Marathon - 1/15
  • Desert Classic Marathon - 1/28
  • Runner's Den Classic (5K & 10K - double down) - 2/12
  • Lost Dutchman Marathon - 2/19
  • Pat's Run - 4/21
  • Eugene Marathon - 4/29
  • Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon - 6/3
  • Disneyland Half Marathon - 9/2
  • Go Daddy Half Marathon - 10/20
  • Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon - 12/2

Multi-Sport:

  • Desert Classic Duathlon (road course) - 3/10
  • IM Oceanside 70.3 - 3/31
  • Marquee Half IM - 4/15
  • Rio Salado Oly - 5/5
  • Mtn Man Sprint - 7/15
  • Mtn Man Half IM - 8/12
  • Nathan's Oly - 9/23
  • IM AZ - 11/18

If the calendar, family and wallet allow, I might throw in a splash n dash or AZ OWS event here and there for training.

Although when it comes down to it, just finishing each event will make me happy, my time goals for 2012 are:

  • PR Marathon - 3:30 (current PR - 3:43)
  • PR Half Marathon - 1:35 (current PR - 1:41)
  • PR Half IM - 5:30 (current PR 6:11)
  • PR Ironman - 11:15 (current PR - 12:58)

Training goals are to build my bike skills up as much as humanly possible.  This is my weakest area and I have the most room for improvement here.  My run is improving, and with the heavy run schedule I should be able to keep that building for IM AZ.  Swim improvement of about 6-8 minutes for 4000m is in reach also.

If I can finally manage my diet a bit better, I am hoping to move from 195ish to 185ish in weight, while not losing my lean muscle mass.

It is definitely going to be a crazy, crazy year - but I am looking forward to the workload and all the challenges.  Keep moving forward!!!
