My first interest is hunting. Mostly Mule Deer, Antelope and Elk. Some pheasants. Part of the reason I got into Tris was to increase my shape and my ability to go farther and harder out hunting. Now I can get further off the roads and packing meat out is easier. Triathlons are quickly catching up to hunting, but might always be in second place.

When I was a kid, I was that girl who spent all of her time at the barn with her horses. I showed hunter/jumper, was a trail boss at the stables on base, dabbled in dressage, and did a hunter-pace once. After college, that part of my life went away.

But, now, I've decided to put triathlon on the backburner and return to my horsey roots. I am taking lessons again, bought my own saddle, and, once the job/income situation is solid, will buy a horse of my own. I hope to do lower-level eventing.

Backpacking / Mountaineering - I got into Tris as a way to keep in shape for my winter backpacking trips. If it weren't for the wife and kids I would probably be just working enough to fund my next adventure!

I have to say I find the people in triathlons much more enjoyable, mountaineers have a way of being very elitist, if you haven't done your time you are not worthy.

This is in the category of "used to have" a hobby bigger than,  stock car racing in a previous time. An interesting parallel, if it is light weight, helps you go faster then its expensive. Sound familiar.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one with MULTIPLE interests, I was beginning to think I was a little A.D.D....

For me it's hockey, soccer, golf, SCUBA diving and guitar.  I had to give up tennis and paintball as I just didn't have the time or $$....LOL

I really love coaching and running with my daughter and suspect that as she travels more with soccer hockey and riding I will toss a few more on the back-burner....

I think this is my first post here and it will be a good one...lol.

I have a larger hobby than tri.  It's extreme gardening.

In 2010 I grew the world record pumpkin.  1810.5#.  I have the guinness certificate right in my office

Yowza. I googled your pumpkin, and it's impressive indeed.

Not as time consuming as triathlon, but certainly as expensive...    I keep koi.   10,000 gallon pond with all sorts of filters, pumps etc.  Many fish imported directly from Japan.

I'm very much a middle of the road koi hobbiest (in the same way that I'm MOP in tris) but I know people who think nothing of spending $10 k on a fish.  Crazy!

Hockey - been a rent-a-goalie for five years so play 5-10 times a week.

Scuba - been a diver for 15 years, instructor for five, I'll do any dive up to 300' but the costs can make tris look cheap.

Woodworking - tools ain't cheap, either.

I found triathlon when i wanted to stay in shape for racing go-karts. Since I got more involved in Tris the karting has pretty  much stopped and golf has been most dominant. I just sold my Ducati monster in hopes of getting a computrainer and getting serious about another Ironman. Fall i spend most of my time bow and gun hunting. Oh yeah I am also playing with aquaponics.
