My wife and I had our Honeymoon in the New Orleans French Quarter. We plan to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary there on 4/19/2013 .  The 2013 race is so close to the date that I want to celebrate doing this race.

Buck, might want to post this on the Louisiana thread as some of the NOLA locals can chip in.  My thought is it probably isn't a great idea (but I have not really reviewed what it would take to get there).  Besides riding those roads to get there how were you planning on getting back to your hotel on Saturday?  Couple of options would be either Taxi (may be a bit expensive) or see if you can catch a ride with someone else doing the race or maybe bus.

I am driving down Saturdary from Baton Rouge to drop off my bike and then heading back.  Not sure what time but if you haven't figured things out I might be able to pick you up.

2010 wasn't too bad as I remember but 2011 was pretty tough, with the wind I hit 25mph easy, against I struggled with 16mph.  Read the RR's from the last couple of years to get a good feel.  Hoping 2012 will be more like 2010

to GaryRM,

Was the 2011 changed to a duathlon "no swim" due to unpredictable water conditions?  I had read in Lava mag about this 2011 race having no swim.. Do you know why this was? Polution, wind, etc...

Looks like updated course maps have been uploaded to the NOLA 70.3 website.  As rumored, the run doesn't appear to finish in the Quarter any more, but instead finishes at the University of New Orleans.  Should make logistics a bit easier trying to get your gear back, since the finish is basically at transition, but you lose the experience of finishing in the Quarter.  Booo.....

could care  less how the swim goes as long as I can see the bouys. But i am bummed that the course does not go through the city at all. I was looking forward to the new orleans flavor at the end of the race when I most needed it. the race will be much more spectator friendly now so the wife should like that.

So I guess we will have to rent a car after all now that the race finish changed (thanks $40 a day hotel pkg -uhg!) . I'm kind of bummed, I heard from other BT'ers about the great finish in the quarter. Oh well - will just have to hit it up post race to celebrate! Has anyone shipped their bike with the provider on the 70.3 website before? Any other thoughts about bike shipping from past racers?

Kank - sorry I missed this.  2011 the swim was cancelled due to bad weather and they could not get the safety personal out on the water.  There was a bit of a discussion on if they should have cancelled the swim or not but it looked rough out there and the locals that know that lake agreed with the decision.  As it was the bike was rough in parts due to the winds.  OTH, going with the wind was great.  First time in my life I avgd 26mph on a bike!

Saw that you may be able to get a refund on the race because they just dropped the price. My guess is this race is not doing well

As of Feb 4th they had about 1100 registrants (that includes pro's and relay teams).

As for the RD Q&A I think someone posted it over on ST.
