I've noticed I can't just throw my swimcap into my gym bag after trips to the pool and expect it to last. It doesn't stay clean. What do you do to protect your swimcap after workouts?

Usually I rinse it off using cold water in the locker room after a swim and then air dry it at home.  Truth be told ... I buy swim caps fairly cheaply off of eBay so I'm not terribly concerned about it!!

The only thing I do is dry after using. Not sure how it gets dirty. I have a silicone cap I've had about a year and lots of latex from races. After a while the latex ones will tear/break but they don't get dirty.

Rinse off chlorine/salt.

Hang up to dry; turn inside out after outside is dry.

When that side is dry, a sprinkling of talcum powder inside so you can rub the sides of the cap together easily.

I rinse and dry inside out. I store them in a ziploc with baby powder.

I usually rinse semi dry it with my towel and dust the inside with cornstarch.

I rinse it out and rub it dry inside out with a towel then just shuf it back in my gym bag.  I've been using the same swim cap for at least a year.  Since I got 5 more last year during the Tri's I should be good without having to buy one for at least 5 years, right?

I just stuff my goggles inside which keeps it from collapsing on itself and not ddrying out. Protects both the goggles and the cap. Then I put both, along with any other pool junk (tempo trainer, spun suit) in a mesh bag adn drop it in my swim bag.

Keep a coating of corn starch or talcum powder in a ziplock and after you dry the swim cap, dump it in the ziplock and shake it.

I stuff an old hand towel in them to keep from sticking together after rinsing.  Can't recall the last swim cap I purchased, just use race caps until they fall apart or rot.

Hey thanks for all the tips. I didn't know the idea about using babypowder. I'm sure that small tidbit will go a long way. The swim cap just gets dirty, because the inside of my gymbag accumulates dirt, grime, etc. But I'll try rinsing it and drying it more thoroughly.

A small "tidbit" of powder will go a long way too!
There is no need to make a huge mess dumping a ton of powder in your cap - it doesn't take much to get the job done.

I've been using the ones you get from races.  Rinse during shower, dry a bit with towel, lay out and dry inside and out.  They survived for about 4 months swimming twice a week with them. =)

I shave my head. Only wear a cap for races and OWS. Even then I only sometimes remember to rinse it off. Finding old lake grass dried to the side is a sad reminder that I don't get been in the water often enough.

Here's how you keep swim caps for YEARS.

Let them dry.

Get a plastic baggie (quart size) and put baby powder in it. Toss the cap around with the baby powder. Store it in there till the next time you swim.

Your caps will never stick together again and will keep forever.

I rinse mine, inside and out, in the shower on the pool deck.  Holding the rinsed cap flat, I lay my rinsed goggles in the middle and fold the cap like a taco around my googles.  A little roll and then stick them in the foot of my flippers.  Everything then goes into a mesh bag.

Googles get the most protection, and the cap is protected inside the flippers.  I've never lost or crushed a pair of googles since I started this routine.   Before I started doing this, the silicone rubber seals on my googles would dry out, and shrink.

The powder technique works well, but I don't always have powder around.  The powder bottle found it's nitch in my run bag, keeping my asics happy.  Happy asics = Happy feet

I use the powder as well. It makes putting the cap on so much easier as well. I keep the powder in my closet by the hook that I hang my swim bag on. Put a little powder in it, throw it the bag for next swim.

I use silicone caps, so maybe that's the difference here but...

All I do is take it off my head, rinse it in the pool water, and shove it into my mesh bag of swim equipment.

That bag lives in the trunk of my car.

Caps last years...
