Hi everyone,  Leaving Wisconsin this evening with a stop in DesMoines tonight.  Will be at packet pick up tomorrow and driving the bike route.  I'd like to get into the lake on Saturday and see what the temps are too.  Will come through the campsites and try to find Tony's but it will be a bit earlier in the day.  If it ends up that I don't see any of you before the race GOOD LUCK and remember to have fun!  I know we'll all see Lisa on the runCool  I think the tutu is fantastic!

Thank you all for all of the great information, assistance and motivation you have provided!!!  Be safe out there!

Amy

I will be wearing the same kit I wore at the KC Tri.  Unbelievably it came away from the crash unscathed, unlike myself.  Apaprently my first thoughts were to protect the bike and tri kit before myself.  I will also be wearing white zoot arm coolers.  They leave some nice tanlines that are hard to explain.

Also this will be displayed at Mark and I's campsite.  Should be easy to spot.

Do you run in your arm coolers too, or just bike?  I picked some up and did a quick run with them and they seemed like the thick band at the top would chafe really bad against my body so I plan to just wear them on the bike.

Havent had any issues.  I dont think the top band rubs on my skin, only on tri top(if at all?)  I suppose if it was bothering me, i would push it down a bit.  I really think they help....a lot, so I will be wearing them and making adjustments as needed.

I should try sliding them down just an inch or two on my arms.  The band rubs on the skin just above my tri suit (under my arm).  It probably wouldn't bother me if I dropped it down an inch.

I have a 20 minute run on Friday, I'll try it then and see how it goes.  Good news is if it rubs during the race I can just slide them off and shove them in a pocket.  They're light enough.

I suppose that is a benefit of skinny arms.  All my compression stuff is pretty short .

Local lake forecast for the weekend. Most lakes are currently 75-79. Said Clinton is 73 but I am sure that is from last weeks measurement. Clinton also has a shot at 100 on Sunday afternoon before the front comes through. I say bring on the heat. I will be slooooooow.

More incentive to go fast, get out of the heat quick.

Here is the latest from Slowtwitch from Tom Ziebart, Operations Director with WTC:

Water temp was 77 this morning. Air temp will be in the high 80's today. Doubt that the water temp will be going down, but you never know. If the water is over 76 degrees on race morning, it will be a NO WETSUIT swim. Athletes that want to wear wetsuits will go off in the last wave with the Relays and will not be eligible for awards or Vegas spots. They will get a time for the event.

^^looks like their retailers need to move some speed suits Tongue out

I kid. But seriously... the track record for this event has me putting money on a wetsuit legal race.

Heading over to check-in soon.  Probably be there about 2:30 or 3:00.  If anyone wants to introduce themselves, I will be in my neon yellow visor and shoes, white Uvex sunglasses, trying to beat the Saturday lines.

Hoped to get on the road around 11 (but knew it would be later). Finally got on the road at 1 Headed to the park 1st to check-in and get my bearings. Coming from Omaha, so probably be there around 4-4:30 (site 266). Today I'm excited and just can't wait to get there!! Looking forward to meeting everyone!!! Planning on camping Sat night & wondering if there will be ice available anywhere Sun morning? Hoping I don't have to start the bike with hot water.

I'm at 262, I'll come say hi!
I haven't ever seen ice available, but you're welcome to grab some from my cooler in the morning if you want.

Hey Lisa, thanks so much!! We have a cooler, but my husband will have it at the hotel. I can't plan on him getting there on time in the morning. If it's ok I could just bring a small ziploc of ice by Sat night for the cooler & grab it in the morning? That way I'm not shorting you any ice! I've got a speedfil on the bike, so I can dump the ice in to keep it cold for a little while anyway.

We're here too. I got all checked in and have a lighter wallet from the store. When we checked in they said the water was at 78. I don't have a speed suit so I'll be tri top and bottom on the swim if I can't wear my wetsuit. Oh well.Another cool thing, Ben Hoffman is camping across the street from us.

Tony I ran by your RV but I think you were inside. Cool that you're so close to Andy and the gang. I went ahead and just got a campsite, I'm #78. Set up my tent but staying in a hotel tonight for the good night's rest.

When Jon and I checked in this afternoon, they were having an athletes meeting.  The host specifically said, "There won't be wetsuits tomorrow."  He later checke dhimself and said something to the effect of "have it available just in case" but the signals I am getting from a couple of sources is that there is essentially no chance of a wetsuit legal race.  They will put wetsuiters in the last wave, but they can't place or qualify.

Also, it looks like most people put their bike number on the seat post.  The instructions say anywhere on the frame in good view.  I guess the seatpost is as good and aero as anywhere, right?

So I would think the increase in speed you would get in a wetsuit would be negated by the later start w/the relays right? My wave starts at 6:46, and the relays at 7:34. My thought is the sooner I can be done running in the heat the better, and starting 48 min later isn't going to get that done! My tri suit is nice to swim in, the pockets are on the side and there's a top flap that covers the pocket so they don't fill with water. I was able to check in and get the tent set up. Hanging out by the pool at the hotel now. Lisa, you were right Topeka (where we are) is a lot further than Lawrence!! Oh well.

I think it was 2 years ago, they said the same thing (water temp was closer to 80), then it got cooler overnight.  Bring the wetsuit. Just in case.

Jayhox - I look forward to hunting down your yellow shoes on the run. I ran out of real estate at the KC Tri. Good luck tomorrow. The likely non-wetsuit swim gives you a huge advantage. Maybe you should wear a tinman costume during the swim to even out the playing field. I hope we both break 5, weather permitting...

Just be gentle as you make your move.  Cool  Look for me just before the start of the swim.  I'll be the guy in the yellow swim cap.
