BTW, I got to meet Ben Hoffman this morning at the Ironkids Swim start.  He was really nice and engaging.  He was asking me about what races I'm doing this year and said he was pretty sure he was going to do Madison as well.

I kind of expected him to be stand offish, but he was the nicest guy and even brought his Girlfriend over and introduced her to me and my son.  Was very cool.

Oh, and I hope its not creepy that I was checking out his legs.  Dam, his muscles have muscles.  lol

I decided to step on a traffic cone while taking a quick run after a short bike ride. Twisted my ankle. I'll be fine, but I'm such a frickin' idiot! Soaking it in ice right now...

Oh man, that sucks.  I know when I was biking and running I kept thinking.  Don't hit anything, don't step on anything...

Glad I'm not the only one that does stuff like that. I twisted mine yesterday on a little trail run at SMP with a buddy who's just getting started. It's fine, but I thought the same thing you did. lol.

Sorry we missed you, yeah she told us there were a couple people that stopped by.

I wanted to get a swim in without my wetsuit to make sure I still remembered how to swim.  Fortunately I remembered.  lol

Yay, I survived. I havent looked up everyone's times yet, but I know I saw a bunch of you out on the course today. All and all I'm happy. I would have liked to have done better on the swim and run, but those waves were no fun at all and I was cooking after about 2 miles into the run and just couldn't get cooled down so I had to back way off. . Also, it was great meeting everyone last night. (sorry for the crappy iPad formatting)

7:02:03 for my worst ever Half Ironman. Also my best ever (even if it doesn't feel too great right now).

I thought I was going to drown! Blown so far off course the kayak volunteer thought I was supposed to be headed out bound, not back. He tried to turn me around for another lap. Could bike split for me but my run sucked big time. 7:17:xx total.

I saw LisaC several times and yelled to her, I'm sure she had no Idea who I was. I may have proposed late in the run but who knows, I was suffering by then

that swim was tough. I don't think even Lisa could have fixed it with her magic wand otherwise I know she would have. Andy D said it was the hardest race he had ever done and that it was his worst time, so I don't feel too bad. But I still feel bad.

I picked a tough one for my first 70.3.  Challenging in every discipline without even considering the distances.  It was great to meet everyone!  Hope to see you in the future!

The swim wasn't too bad for me on the way out, the way back was another story! I went around the 2nd turn buoy, looked up to sight the next one and...where is it? Had to guess, ended up swimming/being pushed to the inside, finally would spot the buoy to the far right, swim around it, repeat a bunch of times! So basically I swam a zig zag on the way back. Wasn't scared or stressed so that's good. I was really afraid of everyone swimming over me and pushing me under, but that didn't happen at all. That wind on those steep uphills going straight south was ridiculous!! And the run...it was so hot, I was determined to have a good happy race, so a lot of walking (plus ice everywhere at every aid station). My time was 7:38, my goal was a smile and anything under 8 for my 1st, so I'm happy especially w/the conditions. After a shower & some food, I feel really good, but my legs are moving a little slow. It was nice meeting some of you Saturday night & seeing you out on the course!!

Had a great time. Wish the conditions were a little better, but you play the cards you are dealt. It was great seeing everyone I knew and meeting so many more of you. I hope everyone has safe travels home, and I look forward to reading some race reports tomorrow. I am sure I will be to tired to get any real work done. Oh, Patrick let me know if you got hat Vegas spot. Might be tempting to go out and Sherpa for you.

7:16:06 here. Best OWS I've had. Not really time wise, but sighting and comfort was pretty decent for once. As long as i timed the swells with a breath, it was all good. You're right, turning south into the hills was a little soul crushing. But the ride back in was fun at times though. The run- the run broke me. Lol. Thats the slowest HM Ive ever ran, including the one I stopped in the middle of to renew my vows. The sprinklers on the run were possibly the best thing I've ever encountered in a race. I was surprised at the number of dnfs in my age group actually. Great to meet a few of you and hopefully see you in the near future. I've got to go back to North Dakota Wednesday so Tinman is out for me. Maybe Des Moines though. Glad everybody survived and had a good time! I'll be back, but probably no more 70.3 until next year! I felt undertrained for this one for sure.

Great to see all those I know, get to know some better, and meet some new people!  "Brutal" is the word of the day.  Swimming is my thing and I thougt it was brutal.  The wind-created waves were bad enough, but the speed boat waves were killer on the way out.

5:22 for my first 70.3 and I am thrilled.  30:49 swim.  19.8 mph on the bike, and kept it under 9:00/mi on the run.  I wanted under 8:00/mi on the run but not a chance of that under today's conditions.  All-in-all a great experience and the learning curve shot straight up today.

"Team Neon" (my wife and kids) were a great motivation for me and I got choked up seeing them as I crossed the line.  Turned a potentially mushy moment into a double fist-pump and maintained my manhood.  :-)

Jon, Mark, Lisa, Snyderman . . . and everyone -- great job under BRUTAL conditions!  My wife wants to rent an RV next year to avoid the multiple drive-ins over the weekend, so party is at our place next year on Saturday night!  (Or Friday if I work it correctly.)

Jon --- Didn't roll down to me.  >:-(  The 35-39 group went VERY deep to fill their slots which gave me some hope, but our group went in the first few rolldown offerings.  Oh well, maybe next year?  Thanks for sticking around a while to see if it would happen.  You were smart to leave because we didn't get out of there until close to 5:00.  Took forever.

John Bohnsack - you and I had very similar races up until the running portion. Even our transition times were similar (ridiculously long T1's and all)!

A personal worst for me by 24 minutes, but I managed to squeeze in a little fun

Swim: I didn't feel as slow as my watch said. I actually felt fairly strong and like I held my own. I was surprised at my time. Felt fresh coming out though.

Bike: Hey, 30mph winds, stick around why don't you? Said no one on a bike, ever. Rough, scary, total beat down.

Run: I actually ran more than I deep-down thought I would, so I'm proud of that. The tutu was a blast, the aid station ice felt amazing (just kept dumping it in my top), and I loved seeing all of you out there.

I will say that I'm relieved to not be registered for any more races till September. After today, I need a break.

Proud of all of you!

Taking the day off from work today to further relax and recover. My body is still telling me I'm dehydrated. This was the third year in a row for this race for me and it was my slowest time, despite feeling the most prepared for it (except for the whole training in heat thing). I got a little dizzy/wobbly early on the run and decided I was going to proceed with caution on the rest of the race. Bottom line we all finished a tough day. Congrats everyone!

That was a tough day. Like Lisa, I thought I had an awesome swim. Was very disappointed when I got my splits at the end. I never set my watch for this race, that's a first. Thought I took it easy on the bike, but when I got onto the run, my quads immediately started cramping up. Had to stop several times for some self massage. I was really looking forward to making the run my , instead I was. Anyway, still was good to be out there despite the conditions. Finished 35 out of 114 in my age group which is really how you should measure your race IMO. Time 5:57.
