Good luck to you too, Jen! Are you doing a lot of your training around the Boulder Res? That's where I swim/run/bike in the summer. It's a great place to train. Enjoy!

So are there 3 of us "jen's" now?  AWESOME!!!

As for me I'm training in Colorado Springs area.  Went for a bike ride yesterday and it kicked my tail!!!  I am so green on the bike it isn't even funny.  I moved here from sea level last July and only rode outside a few times.  Swam yesterday as well, hoping to get some much needed help.  Are you all self coached?  I'm debating Endurance Nation or even signing up as a paid member here for additional help.  Not sure yet what to do.  Any advice?

I train in Parker, Colorado.  I was self coached for about 6 years and just last year I hired a coach.  Best money I've ever spent!  For $100/ month I get weekly plans and unlimited calls to my coach.  For an additional $100/month I can train with my coach  3-4 times per week.

If you are not ready to hire a coach, try finding a masters swim or triathlon club in your area.  I think there is one that practices at Cheyenne Mountain high school in Colorado Springs.  www.thetpi.com

Good Luck!

I am a member of the Pikes peak tri club.  I am in the process of hiring a running coach and swim with two other swimmers.

Thanks for the input.  I looked into a masters swim but I have 2 children and getting there in the morning would not be possible.  I had a coach that was helping with the swim but what I was paying for just swim help I could have a one on one coach at least one available 24/7.  I live on the Air Force Academy base so there is no shortage of hills but I can't takle the big loops yet.  Even riding close to the house drops me from 6886 or so to 6600and that's in a mile, so coming home sucks!  Right now on a climb like that I am under 10mph.

I've trained off season using the MAF method for aerobic heart rate but today I attempted a tempo run and just couldn't maintain the pace anymore.  good thing it's the beginning of the season.

My husband is training for this race as well!!

Jen I swim with two other people at the Briargate Y (about 9 miles away) at 5AM.  If you would like to join us you can.  I get some free passes so you could show up and swim for free 3 times while you check it out.  We are done around 6 so you could be home by 6:45.  Their is another masters group at Lifetime near us that I think meets about the same time.

I'm self coached too. I do a masters swim class at Colorado Athletic Club in Boulder and the swim coaches are great there. During the summer I swim with Boulder Aquatic Masters at Boulder Res for OWS. I've always been a runner so I feel fairly confident in coaching myself in the run portion. The bike is where I really need some help! I just joined the Fly Faster Tri club through Colorado Multisport ($75 for a year) that will hopefully provide me with some group runs/rides so that I can learn from others with more experience! It's kinda pieced together but I think it works...at least to get me across the finish line

I just looked into the Pikes Peak Tri Club.  I printed out the app for my husband and I.  I will talk to him tonight about us checking out Briargate.  For both of us it may be that we take turns going so that one of us is always here with the kids.  I see that the club rides here on base.  That may have been the group we saw this weekend!..  We live here on base but it would be nice for both of us to be pushed...  Especially me!

This was planned to be my A race for the year, but I just had a small surgery this last week that set me back on my training. I haven't done a 70.3 distance before and am kind of waiting to see how the recovery process goes. Has the race sold out in the past? At what point do you think I need to make my final decision?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve this race in the past two years sold out by the end of Jan.  If it sells out you have two more options.  The HITTS series the week before the Boulder race and if that is too early then look at the Harvestmoon race in Auroua that is at the beginning of Sept.  I hope this helps.

Just completed the Peak last weekend.  It was a beautiful day for racing in Boulder and I turned in a pretty decent performance, dropped 3 min from last year.

Now adding volume the next few weeks and getting geared up for my 2nd 70.3!!!

I just posted on the CO forum - do you think there's a chance this will not be wetsuit legal this year?  The water temps are so high already.  Has this ever happened before?

I'm just wondering if I should do some sans wetsuit OWS training.

Thanks!

Not the last two years, when the water has been questionably warm.

I think they sink the thermometer to the bottom center of the lake, just to be certain its at least .2 degrees below the max Wink

The water temp is at 77 degrees.  I hope they find the cold spot.  Their will be a wetsuit wave if they don't find a spot below 76.1.  You will not be eligable for any prizes.  This is per race video.
